Tekkit is using huge amounts of bandwidth

Description of Problem:

Without even logging into a server the network usage changes from idle (0) to varying from 50,000 to upwards of 1,000,000 per second. When in a server this decreases (not what you would expect) to around 300,000 and varies less. This very quickly eats up bandwidth

I have to say, this kind of happens. Not sure why though, sorry.

Is there a fix or even a temp solution?

I usually restart my computer, doesn't fix, just makes it better for a while
