Contaro Posted September 17, 2012 Posted September 17, 2012 Hi, I'm new to tekkit and at the moment I have an extractor, compressor, rotary macerator, induction furnace. To power my machines, I'm using two Low Voltage Solar Arrays plugged into a batbox. Is this the best way to power everything? Should I be using a different form of power? Thanks :)
warpspeed10 Posted September 17, 2012 Posted September 17, 2012 Solar arrays are the most expensive form of power next to nuclear generators, and they only work for half of the day. Try to experiment with the other generators like wind, water, and geothermal. These inevitably take more effort to set up than slapping down one block, but if you're starting a new world, solars are just too expensive for what little energy they produce.

No, don't bother with wind. It's terrible. Geothermals are awesome if you can get lava cells for them. I've never tried water.

Lothos Posted September 17, 2012 Posted September 17, 2012 actually, after testing on creative I dont see any reason why 1 or 2 wind's being good if you can get them up around layer 155. Nice and cheap for initial sustainable energy.
DELTALON.exe Posted September 17, 2012 Posted September 17, 2012 So just connect a geothermal generator to a batbox and away I go? If you can get one, yeah. It'll make 20 EU/t, so you need a transformer if you're using a batbox. It uses lava buckets (unstackable, but I'm fairly sure you keep the buckets) or lava cells (stackable, but you lose the cell), which means it's not exactly the easiest thing in the world to use.
LUCer Posted September 17, 2012 Posted September 17, 2012 Actually, you don't need a transformer. 32 EU/t is LV and 20 is below it. And if you get later in the game, I'd suggest using a logistics pipe-enderchest system to collect lava cells from the nether and use it on your geothermals.

I always think that LV is 16 EU/t for some reason.
Contaro Posted September 17, 2012 Author Posted September 17, 2012 Well thanks everyone for the help!
