Yes, that is the problem, but when I first got Mountain Lion I did that, but as soon as I updated to Java 7 this started.

Then you've run into another problem entirely. LWJGL version 2.8.4 and lower is not compatible with Java 7 on OSX at this time (so says @LWJGL). You'll need to downgrade to Java 6.

tepidpond, since you are more experienced in this than me, would it be theoretically possible to write a script that tells Minecraft to use the downgraded version of Java allowing you to keep both versions?

I downgraded to Java 6 and reinstalled the launcher, but it is still happening...

Yes Jorcer, that is possible. Unfortunately I'm not familiar with the Mac system so I can't write the script. There are howtos scattered on the web though.
