Technic Launcher Stopped Working Immediately Windows 8

norseman

Question

Launcher Version: 1.0.1.0

Operating System: Windows 8 Pro x64

Java Version: java 7 update 7 x64

Antivirus Program: None

Description of Problem:

Upon double clicking the TechnicLauncher.exe file nothing is launched and the windows Technic Launcher has stopped working box from Windows pops up for a second and then goes away.

So nothing is installed, nothing is downloaded, it doesn't even get to any kind of a splash screen.

Things I have tried:

- running the launcher as administrator

- running the launcher in compatibility mode for windows 7 and as administrator

- running the launcher in compatibility mode for windows xp service pack 3

After looking in the event log I see the exception that is being thrown is System.IO.DirectoryNotFound (See logs in the Error Log section)

I am going to guess that the launcher is trying to check which version of windows is running but as to why it is causing a directory not found error I can't say, maybe I'm completely wrong.

I am a .net developer but I am planning on downloading eclipse and taking a peak at the source to see if I can figure out exatley where the problem is.

If any developers want to test this in Windows 8 check out the Windows 8 Release Preview which is free, I have an MSDN account which is how I am able to get the full version before it has gone public.

Error Messages:

Stopped working

Error Log:

~/logs/launcher_init.txt blank since nothing has ran yet.

I'm sorry i mistyped that , I can use Technic just fine with Win 8 and I launch with the .jar and have had no problems at all .

I am using Java 7 with update 7 and Windows 8 RTM 32bit version.

I don't know if any of this information will help anyone figure out what is wrong but if there is any more information I can give to help figure this out let me know.
