setting up server (mod problem)

I'm trying to set up a simple server for me and brother to mess about on, got it all set up fine and seem to be connecting ok, but before it loads the world it tells me i need a whole list of mods, I dont know how to check if i have tthem or not, and then i dont know where to get them. any help would be appreciated.

Any mods in the Tekkit server are in the Tekkit client. Just download Tekkit and you can play.

What he means is: you need to start Minecraft using the Technic Launcher found here: http://www.technicpack.net/

Before connecting, choose Tekkit from the big dropdown menu. It will then download a new Minecraft installation (totally separate from your vanilla one) and also download and install every single mod you need. That means it will take some time when you start it the first time.
