hardc0de Posted March 12, 2012 Posted March 12, 2012 If i made a patch for lan-wide sync of maps, would you be interested? Tech solution: zeroconf for client discovery (adds dep for jmdns) direct socket connection (unencrypted, too lazy to do SSL) with password for data transfer. What do you think? Explanation for non-techs: computer A and B are connected in the same network(wifi whatever) computer A: start technic launcher computer B: start technic launcher computer B: detect A's launcher. Move/Copy maps from A to B over network. Quote
0 Bmandk Posted March 12, 2012 Posted March 12, 2012 This would be very nice to have, if you wan't to play on different computers. Would it be something where you have a GUI for it, or automatically? Quote
0 Bmandk Posted March 12, 2012 Posted March 12, 2012 What do you mean with that? When you run the launcher it looks for the map on the other computer? Or copies it over? Or can you see a GUI of available maps on the shared network? Quote
0 hardc0de Posted March 12, 2012 Author Posted March 12, 2012 I would do a patch for the technic launcher. There would be a new button "Sync.." that would open a window with hosts and maps on them. And options to set password. Quote
0 Bmandk Posted March 12, 2012 Posted March 12, 2012 Oh, this is something I have missed a lot. I found another way of doing this, just on an USB where the saves are on there instead, but 1: That was only for vanilla because it used a program for that and 2: I needed to move the USB every time which was a pain in the arse. 0 Mefaso Posted March 12, 2012 Posted March 12, 2012 I'm normaly interested in such stuff. Not right now because the mainboard in my desktop PC gave up but... Quote
0 ErusPrime Posted March 12, 2012 Posted March 12, 2012 Cool idea. cloud storage seems like it would be more useful though. Quote
0 hardc0de Posted March 12, 2012 Author Posted March 12, 2012 cloud storage on ftp should not be difficult, but bandwidth would make sync slow. Quote
0 Bmandk Posted March 12, 2012 Posted March 12, 2012 If it's LAN it shouldn't be a problem, right? Quote
0 hardc0de Posted March 12, 2012 Author Posted March 12, 2012 Yep. If the patch would be accepted i could start hacking. Quote
0 Bmandk Posted March 12, 2012 Posted March 12, 2012 Well, I'm looking forward to this, hope you can get it done! Quote
0 Truculent Posted March 12, 2012 Posted March 12, 2012 Do you mean for multiplayer? Or for keeping singleplayer maps in sync across multiple machines? I use dropbox for storing my single player saves, works great. Quote
