Something is wrong with your java runtime... Do you have a server back-up or some way to get back to a previous server state? If you do then put that somewhere safe and just run that, and just sit tight until someone can fix the problem, i have no idea as to why this is happening.

In that case I'll rather just uninstall it and reinstall it. Problem is my server is standing 45 miles from me, and I need to upgrade my ubuntu, dont't want to do that over ssh. My current Ubuntu version does not have a java 7 package supported for 64 bit so I have to force it in there by hand, it is entirely possible something went wrong along the way but it has been working flawlessly for everything else, including vanilla minecraft, for several days.

Is there a "recommended" version of java 7? It seems to have gone down the drain since Oracle took over, several version of Java 7 to choose from, no Idea what the merits are of the different ones, like Open JDK 7, Jre 7, etc etc etc.

Yeah, thats the guide I used. Did not work, for starters ppa:dlecan/openjdk does not exist, but ppa:dlecan/dlecan did, and that did work. And various stuff needed to be done with python for some reason in order to get the add-apt-repository command working which it did not do as standard.

So that is the java I use and then we have the same version as far as I can tell?

And when I say I didnt want to update over ssh, I was talking about upgrading ubuntu to the next release, not java.

[Edit:]

Same crasch after reinstall of java.
