Not enough items bug

When i open my inventory there is no list on the right, no search bar or options on bottom left, this happens in smp and ssp. I tried downloading client again and still doesnt show up. anyone know why?

Press the 'O' key and the interface should reappear.

I have the same issue but O doesnt do anything... I get it quite often and dont know what i do to remove it at all.
