Buildcraft Engines Break the Server

Question

Title: Buildcraft Engines Break the Server

Version: 3.1.2

OS: OS X 10.8.2 (Mountain Lion)

Java Version: Which Java thing? I'm usually better at that but I can't find something actually called Java JRE.

Description of Problem:

Whenever someone places an Engine, I'm assuming of any type, but so far it's just been redstone engines, I've banned engines until I get this problem solved, but I can test other types if that would help. Whenever someone places one the server immediately causes everyone to disconnect and it basically freezes, the /list command, when issued from the console, says that the same players who were on when the problem occurred are still on. It doesn't show as online in the server list. You can't connect. I had to remove the engine using MCEdit. If you restart the server, the /stop command does shut down the server properly, the server allows connections, but when someone tries to connect it doesn't load the world it just drops the player infinitely into The Void. It shortly disconnects everyone and appears partially frozen again.

It seems to me like the problem has to do with the server failing to load the world when it gets to loading the chunk with the engine on it. Since the server responds to commands, and appears to have issues tracking the players in the world. It's a small server, and I started not that long ago, although I've hosted before, and I think I've even used this version of Tekkit before too. Also I'm pretty sure it's Tekkit version 3.1.3, but that's not in the version list. Upon checking the log, the same problem appears to have happened for the Pump.

Error Messages:

None, the server appears fine until one tries to connect.
