It seems your gpu drivers are out of date. Please go to your manufacturer's website to find the up to date drivers for your computer.

Intel: https://downloadmirror.intel.com/24345/a08/Intel%20Driver%20Update%20Utility%20Installer.exe

AMD/ATI: http://www2.ati.com/drivers/auto/autodetectutility.exe

Nvidia: http://www.nvidia.com/Download/Scan.aspx?lang=en-us

If the above post doesn't work, you also may want to look back at downgrading to Java 7 and avoid earlier versions of Java 8, such as u20, as some mods and the LWJGL library may not fully support Java 8 at that particular version of the library.

That's not true. Downgrades to Java should only be done if the user is running Windows 10 & an integrated Intel gpu under a certain version as they do not have dedicated drivers from Intel for Windows 10.  The suggested version for them is Java 8 u25 as it is the one Mojang themselves ship. For Windows 7, users updating their gpu drivers will fix the pixel format error for them, downgrading Java versions is not needed nor will it actually fix the issue in the majority of the cases.
