How to allocate more than 4gb ram

How do I allocate more than 4gb ram??
it doesn't look like java args are working here

Launcher options -> Java settings -> Second dropdown box.

What version of Java do you have? 64 bit or 32? 32 only allows up to 4GB. If your machine can support it, download the 64 bit version of Java: https://java.com/en/download/manual.jsp  Choose the Windows Offline (64 - Bit) option. Provided you can run 64-bit versions of software, and you have enough RAM, you should be able to increase it

That's going to be depending on how much there is in your pc. You shouldn't really need more than 4 GB though. more usually causes worse fps.
