What's your favorite method of mining.

A ladder in the center of my house, straight down to the bottom of the world. Sort-of circular floors spaced along the way down. Branch mines formed on each of said floors.

Not entirely efficient, I guess, but it takes up very little space. And the part of it that's in the dirt layers makes for a convenient farming site that won't get trampled by mobs... At least until I get to Industrialcraft crops that don't seem to like being underground too much.

Turtles, Mining drill, and a Dense ore stacked world in Mystcraft (Yes, Decay turned off. Its SSP, I don't want to spend a billion years mining enough material, and I don't just wanna spawn it either)

Looking into Quarries too...

Redpower tunnel bore that uses shields to cut through rather than block breakers. Definitely the fastest possible way to gather resources if you exclude EE.
