My friend is online but technic says he's offline

So we wanted to play some modpacks, and wen he opens technic it says he's offline. He made sure he had internet and stuff and he was. We even tried doing setx _JAVA_OPTIONS -Djava.net.preferIPv4Stack=true.  Any help?

Have them log out, then log back in BY PRESSING THE ADD MICROSOFT ACCOUNT BUTTON.
