MothMan8 Posted January 20, 2013 Posted January 20, 2013 I have been trying to use one of the blank custom templates to make a custom private modpack, but i cant get a URL for the folder. i watched the video and it didnt help. Is there a way to get the URL for the folder without using dropbox, how do get the URL. Sorry if i'm speaking gibberish, but i just cant figure out how to.
freakachu Posted January 20, 2013 Posted January 20, 2013 you need to upload it somewhere. dropbox is an easy way to do that if you know how to use it, but it is not the only way. however, if this is confusing you to the degree it appears to be, you might be better off asking someone you know who didn't get a frontal lobotomy recently.
MothMan8 Posted January 20, 2013 Author Posted January 20, 2013 okay thanks, i will just install dropbox then and try that out.
MothMan8 Posted January 20, 2013 Author Posted January 20, 2013 Didn't work , must be doing it wrong. Pardon my stupidity, but is there a way of making a private custom modpack without using a URL.

gotyaoi Posted January 20, 2013 Posted January 20, 2013 I think I remember hearing that you could use a file:// url if you're just testing on a local system. So if your zip is in your home folder on windows, you could do file://C:/Users/username/filename.zip or on mac, file:///Users/username/filename.zip
freakachu Posted January 20, 2013 Posted January 20, 2013 technically, that's still a URL. but if you're going to only be using the custom pack yourself, you may as well install the mods into it yourself and be done with it. no need to fool around with custom zip files and all that stuff
gotyaoi Posted January 20, 2013 Posted January 20, 2013 It can be useful for just testing a zip quickly, without needing any external tools, which is slightly useful in my opinion. edit: And it does technically answer the OPs question. :P
