Help a server newb.

Hi im currently looking for server hosting. I know that most of the sites that recomend so much memory for so many players are probably based on Vanilla. Im looking at getting a Tekkit server with nothing banned to run for 4 people so how much ram would you recommend i get? Also i see some hosters offer a MySQL database what is that used for with regards to a minecraft server?

ram is not as important as raw processing power, for only 4 people you can get away with as little as 1 gb or ram, and as for sql some mods make use of it, like forge essentials for example

So if i run a tekket only server will i need MySQL? Also how do i know how much processing power the server host is giving me?

MySQL is only needed if you plan to have a database file with perms in it otherwise you don't really need it, but don't quote me on that as im kinda new to doing perms.
