minecraft will not download

Launcher Version: newest

Operating System: Windows 7 professional

Java Version: 7.0.210

Antivirus Program: avast! free

Description of Problem:

the launcher comes up and it dose one of two things after i push the the login button. it said update failed or it starts to down load minecrate, it does this two or three time then it said update failed.

You are NOT on the latest launcher, go redownload it from the site, the launcher was rebuilt for the Platform and the old version can not auto-update to the Platform version
