Description of Problem:

While in the nether in peaceful mode ill here the sound of a creeper hissing next to me, then an explosion.

It's probably the explosion from unstable Nether Ores. Sounds a bit like TNT/Creeper, and they have a chance of exploding if: 1) you start to mine them, 2) you step on them, or 3) they are exposed to oxygen (i.e. you mine the block on top of, or next to, them), fire or explosions.
