How do I use the .jar?

Hi so I've been wanting to use the Technic pack to play on a friends server but when I use the launcher it opens and says "checking laucher version" then closes straight away. I have tried using the suggested solutions like getting 64 bit Java (yes my Windows is 64 Bit,) but to no avail. Anyway the other solution I see is using the .Jar and I'm unsure of how to do this, yesterday I was trying to use it and when I opened it windows told me it did not know the program to open it with so I used Winrar to open it, as I have used it for the minecraft.Jar in the past I assumed it was the correct choice, but now it is using Winrar as standard to open all .Jar files so my question is how do I use the .Jar exactly to get Tekkit working so I can play on my friends server?

Open the .jar with java.

Alternatively, you could uninstall Java, and reinstall it. I think this would set up the file extensions correctly, and edit your %PATH% and %CLASSPATH% variables as necessary for anything else you would want to do with Java.

Yeah, you're opening the jar like an archive, which it technically is, but you need to open it with java so it treats it like an executable.

You should be able to use the .exe no problem though. What antivirus do you have?
