Message Confusion

On my profile, it says I have 6 messages, in my inbox, I have 0.

I am a newbie to this site, so m I doing something wrong, or is this a bug?

That's the list of forum posts you've made.

If you have items in your inbox, you'll have a number in a red bubble above your inbox link in the top right corner of the forum window.
