Launcher loads only shell/Login button remains black.

Question

Launcher Version: 293

Operating System: Windows 7 64 Bit

Java Version: 7 Update 45

Antivirus Program: None

Description of Problem:

Update: Temporary fix found. See my post, about 18 posts below.

I have two computers with the same Windows OS, same Java, and same Launcher Version. Both were fresh installs of the launcher.

Computer #1 is the computer with the issue. Month old, very clean. Computer #2 has no launcher issue, is aged but still viable, but not used much.

I tried using the Launcher on my first computer, and I have a screenshot to show you exactly what I saw(and still see).

It's essentially a 'shell' of what the launcher is supposed to be. It looks NOTHING like what the launcher looks like on my second computer. I can still 'technically' use all the buttons on the launcher... technically. But it does me no good.

The moment I enter my credentials and hit Launch, the Launch button turns black with white letters and remains black with white letters. There is no loading bar, no downloading, no progression going on. I left it running for a half hour to no avail. It DOES write to the log, which I have entered below.

I have uninstalled and reinstalled Java(The correct version, I have used the command prompt to verify.). I have deleted the .technic folder in %appdata% numerous times to relaunch clean, with both the launcher .exe and .jar.

The most interesting test I did was copy over my files from the other computer where Technic works. All the graphics will actually load like normal AFTER you click the sidebar once, but the Launch button will still black out when clicked and no progress will be made. I have since deleted that .technic folder with more failed attempts at getting it to work.

If anyone can parse my log and see why my launcher isn't working properly, you have my gratitude. I have given up on Technic at this point(Since I am not planning on using the computer it actually runs on just to play Tekkit), as everything I have tried over the past 24 hours has failed, so if anyone else can assist, I state again that you have my gratitude.

I'm having the exact same issue. I was at someone else's house 2 days ago trying to log online and a bunch of downloads were prompted for Technic when logging in to Tekkit Lite. I'm not sure what happened or if this was some sort of update, but since then my Tekkit Lite runs slower and I can only log in if I'm connected to the internet. I don't have connection where I'm currently staying and would really like to play in offline mode, but it stays the same blank loading page that you have linked above. If I click on one of the choices from the scroll bar on the left then the images will load, but if I click launch then it stays black and doesn't launch anything. Like I said, if I get online it will connect, do a quick download bar where it says it's "extracting guava" or something then open the play window. When it does this it doesn't shut the loggin/load Technic window like it usually does. Also, the icon in the game window is a crafting bench and not the Tekkit Lite grey and red tool set like usual. Very concerned, rather upset and quite confused.

This is almost certainly being caused by an antivirus program or something similar. I have the same issue and it can be fixed by disabling the antivirus. It is considerably safer to just have the antivirus have the Technic Pack as an exception for being blocked or scanned. I recently updated Avast! and same exact thing happens to me. Your launcher is NOT contacting Technic servers, hence the fact the packs don't load and you can't launch or login. It says you have no antivirus, so you should try running the launcher as administrator. If that doesn't work, perhaps check and see if your firewall is blocking it. If you don't have on installed, Windows is preinstalled with one. In one way or another, you have a connection issue to Technic servers.

digsDAman, stop posting this on everyone's issues. It doesn't fix the issue I have the exact same problem. It works when connected to the internet but tekkit/tekkit lite/tekkit classic wont run in offline mode since the last update. If the issue is that your antivirus/firewall is stopping Technic launcher seeing the internet connection then yes it will resolve it BUT If you are trying to run the launcher in a location where you don't have internet as I am at time it won't work without an internet connection as of the last update and the antivirus has nothing to do with it. Also the launcher itself is much slower to open.

Well, I appreciate the suggestions. But in my case...

1: I have no antivirus. There has not been an antivirus installed either, as this computer's latest reformat is less than a month old. I have gone and turned off Windows Firewall. Same issue still persists with it off.

2: As both computers are laptops, I have taken them to different locations and tried launching fresh Technic Launcher installs. The older one works without a hitch, but the one I am having trouble on will still not contact the server.

3: While this profile is already elevated into administrator and I regularly run everything with the right click>

This makes me think there is a problem with this computer's permissions somewhere, either with java or with outbound network traffic or something, and I have no idea how to go about changing that.

The permission to contact the technic server is what I am thinking is the issue, but I have no idea how to go about telling my computer to allow a Java program launched from my desktop to be allowed to use the network and contact the server in question

Ok I have a workaround. Problem is you have to load it every time so far. I will be copy and pasting this to all post. Go to your web browser and Make sure you delete your technic folder before you do: http://mirror.technicpack.net/launcher/253/TechnicLauncher.exe

This does seem to work.

oh and if you can get the launcher on your desktop let me know

The link from PropagandaWar's comment above is just a normal Technic launcher download. Downloading this and launching normally does not solve the problem of unloaded packs if trying to play in offline mode. The initial start for this forum subject already stated that erasing the launcher and files then replacing them does not work.

You are probably correct. Your computer may have some sort of restriction on contacting or downloading any files from servers. You said that your computer is new and new computers sometimes come preinstalled with some weird programs. Check through your programs list and see if there are perhaps any programs that would be causing a connection issue. If you find any programs you are unsure of what they do, check online. My computer came preinstalled with some file sharing program which caused many connection issues and after it was uninstalled, they all vanished. Also, have you ever had any other connection issues on that computer? I am almost positive this is a matter of connection and it doesn't make sense you can't contact 1 set of servers that everyone else can. You most likely are having a connection issue to servers other than Technic's. I am not an expert on Java, but I can tell you that those lines of code are stating "HEY, I CAN'T CONTACT THE TECHNIC SERVERS". When you said "different locations", did you mean on a different network or just somewhere else, but connected to the same network? Check your router settings. It may be rejecting requests from your computer or the servers. Reset your router. Sometimes when the power goes out my router goes haywire. Shutting down the router for a minute or two and then plugging it back in fixes my router. Try disabling the wireless internet card in the router and then turning it back on. I am on a desktop but I do know that laptops sometimes have a button either near the power button or as a FN combination with some key which will shut down the internet card. They usually have a LED light showing their status.

Another question, did Technic ever work before on this new computer?

So start looking at your computer and looking for a reason for bad connection. Is there anything new you installed recently? Did you recently change any settings? Did you recently change your network hardware? These are things you need to ask yourself. I can't give you a solid fix to the problem, but hopefully I was able to point you in the right direction.

Ok so this is very strange. Apparently it fixed automatically at me and i think this is what happened. 1. So first i found out the the error happened 1 day after i arrived in a other country ( due vacation ) 2. I tried to run technic packs on my other os (OSX since i have a macbook). 3 It didn't work there too as at my brother it didn't do. So it had to do something with the network IP 4. I tried to run minecraft. That showed up: sorry we cant connect to our server please make sure that you are online and mincraft is not blocked. 5. Then i asked my friend if he can play minecraft. He said yes so the servers werent down for sure. 6. I got told that the acc got blocked by mojang for a check and it will work again in 1-2h. A guy told me this on a mojang support chat. 7. Well nothing happened after 2h. So i desided to try it again the next day. 8. it said again sorry we cant connect to our server please make sure that you are online and mincraft is not blocked. but this time in the brackets under it (where the error code is shown) there was something other than before. 9. So finally today it works without problem and this is what i think: Mojang is blocking minecraft connection when you switch the ip adress and try to connect to mojang from a other laucher then usually. Mojang believes the owner of the ip uses a cracked launcher that can log into acc without premission. Mojang then blocks the acc for a period so that the hackers think its no longer possible to play minecraft with the launcher. Why did the technic launcher not work then? Technic runs on modpacks etc. But it runs too on the mojang minecraft servers so it can connect with normal minecraft acc. Due that the launcher times out and is still trying to connect the launcher freezes for a time and the launcher button is black. The connection fails but the launcher ignores that and doesn't show a error up. This is my theory. Pls write your opinion to the strange thing that happend

CTX: I appreciate the help, but as the Technic launcher isn't even contacting the Technic servers from my computer/launcher to begin with, it's not even getting to the Mojang authentication. To doubly check, it's not the case since I have been able to use my login information on my other computer with the technic launcher at all times with no problem. While my login is not migrated to the new servers(I prefer the username login method as an oldschool alpha purchaser and user for years), I do not think this is causing me the issue.

Kyan: Interestingly, I noticed that my older laptop(Which runs the current Technic just fine and is the laptop I am currently using to post from) is running Java 7 Update 40. Dunno if that means anything.

I think I'll list the other known differences between the laptops. I don't have the one with Technic not working here with me, but I use that one much more frequently. The weird thing is that this laptop is the one with more junk that could hinder it, so I'll list the couple of things that might be significant.

This laptop with Technic running does NOT have Windows service pack 1, as opposed to the other one. I found this one's guts did not get along with it, and it beautiful without it(But that was back then).

This laptop's browser does NOT run an adblock, as opposed to the other one. I don't know if or if not that would effect the technic launcher's permission. I mean, I did uninstall it on the main laptop and try and launch technic(and it didn't work), but who knows. The main laptop runs an adblock through chrome. This laptop with technic working also runs chrome, but never had an adblock(and I am not installing one, not even for science).

That's about it for main program differences. I can't think of administrator differences. But I can list connection environment differences.

While this laptop tends to get internet from wifi through a router, my main computer gets an internet connection from an ethernet cable directly from the cable modem. There is no router between the modem and my main laptop. I just want to point that out. It does not run or really ever run normally behind a router when wired, only the rare occasions(and I mean rare) when wireless. The main computer does not typically go wireless unless my cable modem's line goes out or I have to move it(It's a heavy laptop so I only move it for vacation purposes or necessary relocation).

Since the wireless and wired signal are two separate cable modems with two separate IP addresses, I have tested it on both signals and it has not influenced either computer's ability to run or not run the technic launcher.

Hope this extra info helps with diagnosis of the issue.

i've got the same problem since the last launcher update. first i thougt it was related b my bad internet connections atm. but no, its not. i cant log in to most of the mods. tekkit lite yogbox are the only ones i can play. even some more mods (myminecolony+ and minecolony and simukraft are able to load everything) the rest is not workling at all. pressing log in, it went black with white letters showing 1.25 seconds a 0% loading and cuts off looking like nothing was done. using the same labtop since 1year now in difrent lokations (germany, spain, italy, frence) never told me mojang that i was blocked and my acc IS active (was cheking after reading the tread ;) )

maybe it is still some issus with the launcher. they fixed it for tekkit lite (like the description and news in the technik page) but after that nothing happend. i am still waiting to get some news from the technik launcher beeing fixed. he was taking something from the net some days ago, but i could not see any changes.

i also tryed everything that was describted in this treat without anyone of them helping me ;)

@darxio: you are not allone ;)

I have found a temporary fix. I consider it temporary because I do not like the solution.

I downgraded my Java version to Version 6 Update 45.

It now works. Perfectly? I can't say, this is an old version of Java and this is also my first time running Technic on this computer. Do I want to keep Java version 6 Update 45 when it's currently on Java 7 Update 45? Not if I don't have to.

I read somewhere that Java 7 has issues with ipv4 addresses, treating them defaultly as ipv6 unless worked. This connection that I am on is an ipv4 address, so that may have had something to do with it. It was a minecraft issue for J7U4, not the current J7U45, but I went and downgraded to J6U45 anyway(What did I have to lose). It worked.

They had a script to force J7 to force it to read it as ipv4, but I couldn't get it working(Which is why I downgraded). If I can get it working, I'll let you know, as I don't want to stay at J6u45 forever.

Like I said, I am unsure why downgrading from J7V45 to J6V45 worked for me. It's only a guess I took, but it must have been a lucky guess. Keep in mind I have never run Technic or Tekkit before my posting of this topic, so my issue was with no prior experience or installs or knowledge whatsoever.

My issue may not translate to other people's issues, but what worked for me may work for others, depending on if the situation matches.

See, mine was a fresh install, didn't have the Relevant Knowledge spyware problem that some had, and I had a similar computer that didn't have the same problem, so I had to work through it step by step to try and find my specific issue. I didn't find it, but I am fairly confident it has to do with the fact that java wants to use ipv6 when my isp has NO options for ipv6 whatsoever. Dunno why my other computer didn't have the same issue, but it had an older version of Java. Weird thing is, I downgraded to that Java version and the same issue persisted, so there is something being triggered with the Java on my computer to force it into ipv6, even if it's clean.

Couldn't find it, but downgrading to J6V45 solved it for this computer. Everything worked with no issues once I did that(And yes, I did uninstall all my versions of Java and refused the Java update after I installed J6V45).

Again, my issue in the original post, if it doesn't match yours exactly, this temorary fix may not help you. Never hurts to try, but if it doesn't match don't hope for a miracle. Even if it matches, it doesn't mean it'll fix it, but it's a good start.

greetz ^_^

so i was trying but nothing changed, well at last it was not fixed to offline mode, but anyway could NOT download any mod at all (is looks like the other minecraft versions (for yogbox and similar) are able to download. the rest is still not possible to get for me. well at the weekend i am back home with MY network and internet and not a hotel one. maybe the hotel network is blocking some ips and/or some ports/addresses.

i think i can give you an better update at the weekend, maybe middle of next week ;)

it was worth a try, wasn't it?
