Version: 1_0_3

OS: Mac OSX 10.9.1

Java Version: Java SE Runtime Environment (build 1.6.0_65-b14-462-11M4609)

Description of Problem:

My server is getting tons and tons of lag, even though I have put 12 gb of DDR3 ram onto it.

Error Messages:

[Minecraft-Server] Can't keep up! Did the system time change, or is the server overloaded?

is spammed every 10-30 seconds in console

Edit: It only let me pick version 1_0_3, but I'm running 1.1.10

Well yea, your running well over 45 versions behind on your java. Update java. For reference, you probably don't want 12gb of memory on it, Java is notorious for memory issues, and is likely wasting a good bit of that.

I updated the java, and the lag only got worse. After reducing the ram, it was even worse again. It's like this on pretty much any modpack, but running LAN with my friends has no lag. However, vanilla minecraft has NO lag, and actually runs at very high speeds.

If you got lots of lag but none in LAN then I would guess that your connection needs to improve, most Likely your upload speed.

Remember that MC (especially for modded) requires a high CPU speed to process all the random nature and machines that come with it.

That seems like a damn good connection to me...

Perhaps the server isn't powerful enough....

Also, I am no expert. But there are always the obvious things to check

I've re-downloaded it, put tons of RAM on it, made sure all my java stuff is up to date, restarted my computer, restarted my internet, I've even downloaded MCPC+ and made it bukkit, and tried many different anti-lag plugins. The "lag" is simply block lag, where we destroy it, and it comes back and needs to be redestroyed, or pops up for a second, and then drops the block.
