Java Virtual Machine crashes upon loading any modpack

Operating System: Windows 8.1 64-Bit

Java Version: Java Version 7 update 45

Antivirus Program: AVG 2014

Description of Problem:

After clicking Play on any selected modpack they proceed to load until they try to verify the version, it says 0% for a while then jumps to the next load phase and it displays as a random string of characters after which, a fatal java exception error occurs and the program closes.

I have checked my Allowed Apps in my control panel to see if my firewall wasn't blocking the launcher, and it wasn't.

I checked to see if I have the latest java update. I do.

I checked to see if vanilla would run from its launcher, it worked.

All issues and clues point to the Technic launcher as the issue, so here I am reporting this.

My computer is an Asus G46VW gaming laptop

Intel Core i5 proscesser

Nvidia Geforce GTX 660M 2GB Gpu

Airav, are you using the 64-bits version of Java or the 32-bits?

ok, try this: on the launcher window you see a cog-wheel button on the top right corner? Click it, you will see a bar where you can change the RAM the launcher is allowed to use.

If you have enough RAM, try changing it between 1.5GB or 2GB.

Only a 32-bit java and 32-bit OS limits you to only having 1 gig.

Uninstall any java you have and get a new one

One word of advice: if you have any further issues then please remember that your AVG antivirus is known to block downloads of modpacks. If you have that issue, uninstall AVG.

Avast or Microsoft Security Essentials are recommended and dont cause the launcher to go nuts
