Tekkit Classic can't make refined iron

Is it the Classic version that doesn't work for somethings? I put iron ingots in the furnace with coal fuel and nothing happens...I can't make a nuclear reactor without refined iron but I can't make it and there is none in the inventory on creative...I am thinking that it is the Classic Tekkit that just doesn't do some of this stuff and I can't make one in this version, however, it seems to have Buildcraft, Galacticraft...lots of mods added on this server (servercraft)...any ideas anyone???
