KaelSomerville Posted May 8, 2014 Posted May 8, 2014 Hi all, Apologies if I've posted in the wrong place but I'm looking for a bit of advice and probably quite explicit instructions. I'm generally not stupid by anyone's standards but when it comes to this kind of thing, I am absolutely hopeless, so please forgive me if I ramble a bit. My housemate and I are currently running Minecraft 1.7.9 on a Mac and a PC respectively, using LAN to play together. The problem is it's getting a little boring playing vanilla MC all the time and we end up starting a world just to start another one the next day out of sheer boredom with the previous world. A while ago, my husband and I used to play MC with mods but I don't remember which mods we used. I know that it included things like solar panels, etc. but I have memory/cognitive issues due to a disability, so I can't work out which mods I need to be downloading. On top of that, my housemate mentioned that MC 1.7.9 seems to be incompatible with Technic, which I found a little strange, but I can't seem to find any information on which versions of MC Technic is actually compatible with. Basically, I'd like to find out which mods I was using previously and whether or not I can set them up with MC 1.7.9 on both the Mac and the PC so we can continue to play together via LAN, with the aforementioned mods. If possible, I'd also like to set up a server - with those mods - to play with friends in the U.S. too, so any advice on that would be most welcome. Again, I'm sorry if I've posted in the wrong place or missed a thread addressing this issue, but I'm just not good with this kind of thing. Many thanks, K.
Discord Moderator plowmanplow Posted May 8, 2014 Discord Moderator Posted May 8, 2014 Modded Minecraft (in this context) requires the use of Forge for which the latest supported MC version is 1.7.2. While there are a number of mods for 1.7.2 the vast majority of mods are still for 1.6.4 and most packs you see at the moment are Forge/MC 1.6.4 packs. In your case I would recommend using one of the "built in" packs in the Technic Launcher as they are simply for everyone to set up and use and because they have servers already built for them. "Tekkit" (also called TekkitMain) may be a great choice to start with. Modded MC using Forge doesn't always play well when trying to do a LAN game from the client. It is best to run a server with the pack and have everyone connect to that.
