Big Dig, Mcmmo and some new server questions

A friend recently got minecraft and is forcing me to run a private server so i was wondering how i can install other mods into things like tekkit and or bigdig ?

 

I played on some McMMO servers and would like to see if i can get that up and running.

Now i know i need a thing called Bukkit(?) for that but i am not sure how the version history thing works on these things....yes yes i am a newbie at this kinda stuff but i need to start somewhere

Well playing around with bukkit i got it to work and installed McMMO.. Everything seemed to work fine but the world i was generating was vanilla world and not big dig -.-

Trying the mcpc thing now and its not working as well..same issue
