Trojan TR/Agent52736 detected in launcher.

Question

Trojan TR/Agent52736 detected in launcher. According to Avira AntiVir anyway. I'm tempted to just hit ignore, but for once it doesn't say that it's likely malware or whatever but actually gives it a name.

I played for several hours yesterday and it worked like a charm. Today it wouldn't launch at all so I figured I had the same issue as the other guys on this forum, but then avira popped up and told me it had blocked it due to that trojan.

What do I do? Why does it detect this? Is it possible it really has been affected in some way?

It's a false positive, reported several other times by users of that AV software. If you trust the technic team, ignore it. If you don't, don't.

And, as always, you can check the source code to see whether or not there is any bad stuff in it. But I've also used it recently, and Norton didn't find any problem with it. And if Norton says it's okay, then it probably is.

I even searched the forums for mention of trojans and the anti virus software... =.=

I do trust the makers of the technic pack, that isn't the issue. I just wanted a reason for why it gives such a specific return of a specific trojan and whether the file could've been contaminated by a 3rd party at some point.

I want to play so much now so I'll put it on ignore for now, but if possible I would like answers to these questions even so ;). Also, if there's anyway to address these issues so I won't get any similar reports. It makes me nervous as hell.

It gives a false positive because of the way the launcher causes other programs to run without asking you. (so that it can run minecraft and patch the mods into it)

Hopefully a enough users will report it as a false positive that it will stop doing that.

Ah, okay. Well they've received one more false positive report in any case. A step on the way.

Thanks for the technic launcher btw. Simply brilliant.

My theory is that Avira accepts user input. We only just started to get people reporting this recently. I'm guessing someone who doesn't like technic made a false report that it contains a trojan and they flagged it to be safe. Lovely.

MSE, Avast, and even the ones notorious for causing issues with the launcher aren't finding this at all so it lends some credibility to my theory. And yeah the whole thing is open source so anyone can just go view the code and make sure. You can bet 100% that if it did have a trojan, flowerchild would be spamming everywhere he could with it. :allears:

Edit: Oh awesome. I was right, and the community came together to fix it! Awesome guys. :)
