Do private Modpacks require permission from Mod authors?

I extremely apologise if I've posted this in the wrong place as I really don't know where I should of posted this if someone can tell me for the future it would be awesome but I was wondering,

If I'm creating a private Modpack for my white listed server that me and like 2/3 of my friends will play on, do I still require permission from the mod authors to use these mods in the Modpack?

I've asked a few people on other servers but I wanted to be sure because I don't want to get into any trouble.

A response would be massively appreciated.

I see no reason why you would need permissions for a private pack.
