msknight Posted May 27, 2012 Posted May 27, 2012 Hi Folks, I want to cover an area with torch light in order that mobs won't spawn, but doesn't use too many torches. My method will be blocks at the level about the players head, with a torch on each side. So far, if a torch puts out light level 14 and the mobs can spawn at level 7 or below, I figure that the maximum gap between blocks is ten blocks clear? (eg. block, torch, clear, clear, clear, clear, clear, clear, clear, clear, torch, block) - given that this will be a grid pattern and there'll presumably be greater fall off in the diagonal gaps. Have I got it right please, or should the gap be smaller?
Yuriy Posted May 28, 2012 Posted May 28, 2012 I light the floor straight up and I light every 4th block but from what I'm reading here - http://www.minecraftwiki.net/wiki/Light - that sounds like it'd be alright but I'd still test it on hard mode before using it anywhere important. Maybe tighten it up a block or two because of the diagonal gap or stagger the rows or columns.
