Zealapeal Posted May 28, 2012 Posted May 28, 2012 AHEAD OF TIME: I've been browsing this forum looking for a "Technical" board for quite some time and I personally haven't found it at all. If I am in the WRONG SECTION, let me know and redirect me. Please. ... Like, please. Basic Information: Windows 7 x64 bit, enough RAM to run a server on my own machine without use of exterior server, overwhelming processing power, and running Java 7. My Problems in a Nutshell: I can't find where to start. There is NO information WHATSOEVER that I've found AT ALL on how to get a Tekkit server started from scratch, which is what I need to do. A server. From scratch. That runs Tekkit. <----- Problem in the biggest nutshell ever. Most tutorials I've run into say, "Download this, throw it in the random server you must have, go. Have fun." How the hell am I supposed to work with that? Am I supposed to already have my own 'server' so to speak? On Minecraft.net, you can either download Minecraft_Server.exe which creates a server for you. Do I need that as my "base component" before advancing? Also, I've downloaded the Tekkit server pack 3.0.3 thus far. It gives me a few files, and a launch.bat. I've run standard Minecraft servers before, and I've created one of these bat files on my own. It's in my instinct to click it to run the server. Problem is, I get the lovely error of: C:\Users\SupremeRuler\Desktop\Tekkit_Server_3.0.3>java -Xmx3G -Xms2G -jar Tekkit.jar nogui 'java' is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file. C:\Users\SupremeRuler\Desktop\Tekkit_Server_3.0.3>pause Press any key to continue... Is that normal? I've read every guide I could get my grubby little fingers on and I don't understand a bit of it. Why? I don't have the starting materials. Why? It was never explained to the absolute newbie at this. TLDR Summary (Which This Isn't Long at All, By The Way): Where do I start when starting from scratch (meaning, absolutely NO components to ANYTHING related to servers WHATSOEVER are downloaded on my machine), what do I download, how do I install it, and where do I see my server GUI? Milaha Posted May 28, 2012 Posted May 28, 2012 I can understand your frustration, a lot of the tutorials out there assume some basic level of knowledge, and though the process is super simple if you have no idea where to start it can be a problem. On the most basic level if you JUST want a bare bones tekkit server running on a personal machine. Follow these steps. 1. Install Java (may need Java 7, I assume you are a big boy and can do this). 2. Extract this zip to a folder. http://mirror.technicpack.net/files/Tekkit_Server_3.0.3.zip (found here if you don't want the direct link: http://www.technicpack.net/tekkit/) 3. run launcer.bat in that folder You wont have a gui, the server will run in a command prompt, and you wont have most of the anti-grief and other stuff that makes running even a remotely public server reasonable. If you just need a server for a couple of friends to play around in though, this will get the job done. From there you need to poke holes in your router and whatnot of course, but this will get the server itself running. P.S. Might want to read the global rules, they are pretty strictly enforced around here (for good reason). EDIT: I see upon further inspection that you are getting a PATH error (I know it does not say that, but that is what is causing it). First step is to re-install java for your OS. (make sure you select x64 if you are running a 64 bit OS) and try it again. That *should* fix your PATH error, as most often it is caused by only have a 32 bit java installed on a 64 bit OS in my experience. If that fails http://java.com/en/download/help/path.xml has the instructions for setting it manually.
Zealapeal Posted May 28, 2012 Author Posted May 28, 2012 [FIXED] Perfect. Running in Command Prompt properly. My appreciations! [Mild Edit] - Yes, it was a PATH error. Who woulda guessed? -Zealapeal
