  1. Hi guys,

I recently updated my modpack to 1.6.4, and I have encountered the weirdest bug I have ever seen. It involves the ID's for Tinker's Construct, and I have dubbed it the 'Phantom ID' bug.

Here are the config files, containing the ID's, for client and server respectively:

    Client

    Server

Would you not agree that they match exactly? However, on connection to a server that is running the same version of the modpack as the client is, some players get this error:

    80936fc4-7aee-11e3-867e-694c28d6358c.png

(You can see other player's issues about it on my GitHub issue tracker here)

However, the majority of players that try to connect do NOT get the error (myself included) and can connect to the server just fine. I understand exactly what this is telling me, but I do not know why or how this is happening. The configs are exactly the same server and client side, most of us CAN connect but a few people can't because of this bug. I can't recreate it myself which makes it doubly hard to pin down the source of the problem. It's almost like the ID's modify themselves, which is not possible. Can anyone explain this or why it might be happening?

  2. When somebody tries to stop somebody else from speaking their mind, you know they have something to hide, or are just an arsehole! Welcome to the internet, try and stifle free speech if you really want everyone to hate you!

  3. I have to agree with GenPage's second point. The modding community for Minecraft is just like the USA on the brink of civil war in the 1850's; as long as no one brings up the sectional issues then it just about works. Then, it was slavery that was divisive. For this analogy, it is the whole permissions thing. The community remains divided about it but events are simmering down, until someone decides to bring it all back up again. My personal belief is if someone creates something to be played then they shouldn't try and restrict who gets to play it. It's up to the user to decide how he/she wants to enjoy Minecraft, not somebody else. If I came up to you in the street and said you couldn't wear those clothes that way, you would probably think I was some nutter and tell me to push off, even if I was the original designer of the clothes. The same is true about Minecraft mods/modpack permissions.

Please slowpoke, you have entered into this partnership in order to benefit the parties involved but you really need to reconsider this whole 'approval' thing. I don't challenge your personal beliefs about permissions; its not my place to, however you must realise that further agitation of this controversial issue could prove explosive. While I don't accuse you of deliberately dragging this up again, and of course the way you operate is entirely up to you, you have to admit that there are certain mod authors (not naming and shaming) who are highly likely to abuse any approval system, either for fun, for the sake of a bloated ego, or even for revenge. Decisions are yours at the end of the day but it is not something that I would ever support. You might as well ignite the powder keg yourself and watch the community self-destruct.

  4. So, if the title wasn't explanatory enough, Curse, Forge and Feed the Beast are partnering. Here's the thread on the FTB forums: http://forum.feed-the-beast.com/threads/ftb-and-forge-curse-partnership.38512/

If that was too long for you, here is the summary:

    • The goal is to eventually merge Forge and FTB into Curse.
    • LexManos and Slowpoke have joined Curse in advisory roles.
    • Future distribution of FTB modpacks will be on a new Curse Client.
    • Development of the FTB launcher will stop in favour of the Curse Client, of which development will be almost solely in the hands of the Curse dev team.
    • Primary distribution of Minecraft Forge will take place on Curse. Whether this means Curse will become the only distribution platform is unclear, however it is unlikely.
    • The FTB forums will be accessible through minecraftforum.net.
    • The Minecraft Forge forums will move over to Curse servers.
    • The FTB Store will be unaffected.
    • According to Slowpoke, the ultimate goal is to make FTB more than just a launcher; they want it to be a modpack platform where all members of the community can make their own modpacks and distribute them. (sound familiar?)

Whether you interpret this as an attempt by Curse to dominate the modding community or simply a partnership of convenience is up for you decide. However, I do like this quote by Slowpoke:

I am not really interested in a project that from a technical point of view favours FTB over other launchers.

Clearly a reference to Technic and the ATLauncher, as well as many others out there. What do you guys think about the whole thing?

  5. The error log says your computer is failing to download several key library files. Make sure your internet connection is good and stable, and also check to make sure your antivirus software is not interfering with the download. If all else fails, post back here and I'll link you the necessary libraries. Also guys, is rehosting the libraries for someone who can't download them against Minecraft's TOS?

  6. And furthermore, don't we have the new rule about personal attacks on users? Technic gets such a bad rep for being a hostile place for newbies, but in fact the opposite is true; we try to cut out the ones who can't follow rules and don't think it is their fault, to make these forums better for the law-abiding, decent people.

  7. Oh dear God please save me from idiots! Your computer identifies itself to these forums using an IP address. This address is what is banned. If you make a new account and then try to connect to the forums, your computer still uses the same IP address. The forums recognize that this IP address was banned, and thus your new account is also banned.

  8. So it does. However this guy seems to be unaware of his impending fate. I shall pray to the God of KJ to deliver unto us his judgement of the one known as 'Pixcodelix', whose endless rulebreaking, appalling yet humorous grammar and simply hilarious inability to accept his own failure marks him as a worthy sacrifice.

  9. Ladies, ladies lets try to keep the insults to a minimum please? Shayd, it appears that your issue is you do not seem to understand how google and basic file handling works, so let me spell it out for you:

    1. Download the required libraries from here.

    2. Put them into your server's 'libs' folder.

    3. Run your server.

That's it. No need to tell people to slam their heads in doors, or describe someone's head as a phallic object, you would probably have solved your problem quicker if you were just a little bit more respectful and didn't sling insults at the people who could HELP YOU! That's a brilliant idea, why don't we all piss off these guys who know how to fix my problem. Simply terrific.

  10. 148 mods are fine, mine runs 152 no problem. The problem here is you have PowerCrystals mods installed but you don't have PowerCrystalsCore installed as well. Download the correct version of PowerCrystalsCore and stick it in your mods folder.

  11. Yes it is. The modpack slug in Solder needs to match exactly the modpack slug on the Platform. Once you've linked the accounts, the Platform will detect that you have a Solder installation of the pack ready to go and will ask you if you want to use it.

  12. Your error is a MissingMods exception. During the creation of the server files, you may have deleted a mod that the server needs to function with the existing mods. For example, deleting CodeChickenCore and having a ChickenBones mod installed could cause this error. Go back over your mod list again; make sure you have everything where it needs to be.

  13. If you are using the latest version of Solder (includes a dashboard) why do you have to edit the modpack.yml? Simply add the mod and relevant version(s) into your Mod Library, and then add it to your modpack in the Modpacks tab of Solder.

  14. So that clears it. The new EULA specifically states that mod authors must allow ALL parties to enjoy their content whether they like it or not. If there was ever any doubt about permissions, I guess Mojang have fixed it now. Yay!

  15. Ok then, even if I am wrong about the content thing (it would nice to get a clarification from Mojang about that), banning all profiteering from mods is still pretty excellent. Plus, removing financial incentive from mods means a) copying mods does not constitute a copyright infringement case because copyright infringement is a civil crime (to win a civil case you need to prove monetary damages) and B) without the lure of adfly revenue from downloading mods authors will be more likely to open source and delimit the redistribution of their mods because there is no financial benefit anymore.
