  1. Name: ScooterinAB Age: 30 What do you wish to achieve: I'd like to get over my fear/hatred of machines and automation. But more importantly, I'm interested in group builds. I don't see the point in joining a server and then running off to the fringes and never seeing other players. I'd like to build with other players, work on starter projects (like basic genetics labs and simple power plants), and maybe build a zoo. Skype: ScooterinAB
  2. Basics: In game name: ScooterinAB Age: 30 Timezone: Mountain About You: Describe your Minecraft experience: I've been playing Minecraft for about 2 years, and have some experience with AOBT. I like to mostly build and pretend that I'm an adventurer. Describe your experience with Minecraft servers: It's been hit and miss. Too many servers are just single players games with a chat room, since either many servers force players out to the fringes or players simple head there. When I've found good groups of players, I've had a really good time. Have you ever been banned? This is not necessarily a deal-breaker, but please explain what happened: No. What attracted you to this particular server? That you highlight it being close-knit. As I mentioned, I've always had more fun actually playing with others and helping one another that traveling 20 000 blocks from spawn and living under a mountain in solitude. Anything Else? Optional. Is there anything you'd like to ask us or you'd like to share? Is there anything important for the staff to know? One thing I've enjoyed in the past was working on group builds and community projects, like repairing and repopulating a server NPC village on the last server I played on or being a part of a town and running the diner (even if no one ate there, because we didn't have shop permissions). I've also found than many of the AOBT mods do require some start up, and (at least early on) it's not always necessary for everyone to have to build up that infrastructure if they instead have access to community resources (like a starting genetics lab or a small smeltery).
  3. In game name: ScooterinAB Age: 30 Timezone: Mountain About You: I'm a university graduate in Museum Studies and Japanese, and trained as a teacher of English as a second language. I'm also a replica prop builder and tabletop gamer. Describe your Minecraft experience: I've been playing for about 2 years. I'm reasonably experienced with AOBT and a variety of the mods in it. Describe your experience with Minecraft servers: Honestly, it's been so-so. Too many servers are basically single player with a chat room. When I've played on a community minded server (or a server with a community area), it's been a blast. Have you ever been banned? This is not necessarily a deal-breaker, but please explain what happened: Nope. What attracted you to this particular server? The small size makes me think that I'll be able to get to know other players, instead of a massive server where everyone runs off to do their own thing. Anything Else? Optional. Is there anything you'd like to ask us or you'd like to share? I'm interested in group builds and community projects. A lot of the mods require a certain amount of startup that isn't necessary for each and every person to build, at least early on. Group builds also encourage players to build together instead of heading thousands of blocks from spawn and hiding under a mountain in solitude. One question I have is what version of the modpack is being used.
  4. I should clarify what I meant about FTB and machines. I found that most of the technical mods (also Thaumcraft) simply fueled themselves without actually adding anything. You simply make one machine in order to make another machine. Thaumcraft, for example, added a ton of content, but everything I did in Thaumcraft was in order to get something else in Thaumcraft, but didn't actually get me anything in the end. To me, that isn't progression because I never got anything out of it. With mods like Tinker's Construct, on the other hand, there are progressively better tools, but I'm getting something out of it the entire way. Another example is Thermal Expansion. Further progression into the mod creates more efficient machines and power generation, but any power generation solution is still a valid solution (I haven't gotten too much further into the machines part beyond smelting and basics like that). I never felt that with FTB; only the endless cycle of the next thing just for the sake of the next thing. Regarding updates, sure, everything comes to an end eventually, as no mod will be updated forever. My concern isn't with "eventually" though. My concern is with "sooner than later." My concern with starting a B-Team server is that I'm walking into it with an expiry date. I'd be starting the server knowing that mod developers have either moved on or moved away and that I probably only have a few weeks of play time before we start having the same problems and discussions we had when playing FTB. As I said, I'm having a great time playing B-Team, but I don't know if I want to create a server that I feel has weeks of life before we need to decide if we want to continue or update. Or are my fears largely unwarranted?
  5. I've been messing around with Attack of the B-Team for about a month now and I'm having a lot of fun. It's a far more positive experience than when a friend of mine was running a Feed the Beast-Direwolf20 server, since the mods (save for Witchery, which makes me stroke out just looking at it) are a lot more straight forward and less about setting up one machine so you can set up another in order to set up a third. Thinking about the mods, updates, and running a server of my own, I started wondering if B-Team has sort of become the new FTB, for good and bad reasons. The modpack has gotten pretty popular, and it seems like everyone and their dog is starting to play it. It's certainly seems like it's one of the go-to packs around, where as FTB packs were all the rage when I started (also Hexxit, but that's about it). There's quite a bit that can be done with different mods, such that the play experience isn't always going to be the same. Now for the bad part. Since 1.7 was a massive update and seems to be something of a divisive subject in modding, I wonder if B-Team is the new FTB in the sense that the pack is stuck in 1.6.4 and can basically never be updated. Many mods (in general as well as in the pack) have 1.7 versions in the works that will replace 1.6.4 versions. Looks at Enhanced Portals. The version in B-Team is totally different than the version the mod maker is working on right now. I understand the same is true with a planned update to Galacticraft and at least a few other mods. I've also read that some modders have taken 1.7 as a chance to step back from modding, meaning that many mods simply won't be getting updated past their current iterations. This leaves modpacks like Attack of the B-Team is a weird limbo, not terribly different from the RedPower situation with FTB. I should point out that updates for me aren't about the latest and greatest; it's about longevity. Modded Minecraft can be a lot of fun, but if it exists for too long outside of Vanilla, you run into risks of mods no longer being maintained or the entire play experience becoming too different and detached from Minecraft. Even if you remove the version itself from the equation, the mods themselves will only be supported and bug-fixed for so long if mods are tied to an older and older version of the game. What do you guys think? I hope this doesn't come off as "trolly," because that isn't the point. I'm looking at starting a server for some friends and was thinking B-Team, but my fears that this could turn into FTB all over again almost immediately are holding me back.
  6. IGN: ScooterinAB Age: 30 Location: Western Canada Modpack experience 1 to 10: 6 or 7. I was playing on a server (but it closed down) and have been watching many of the "official" video series. Building skills 1 to 10: Around 8. I'm more about attractive and functional builds, not big wooden cubes full of furnaces and chests. Why you?: I'm interested in community projects and trading. I don't see the point in joining a server and then hiding inside your house or a cave the whole time. I'd also like to see (and help with) community "getting started" areas for some resource intensive mods like Advanced Genetics and Galacticraft that maybe not everyone needs to build in their base right away. Anything extra you want to add?: For me, it's all about community. If I wanted to play by myself, I'd play on single player.
  7. IRL name (First Name) Scooter In Game Name: ScooterinAB Skype name (mandatory): ScooterinAB Age: (13-99) 30 How experienced are u with the mod pack: (1-10) 6 or 7. I've been playing for about a month and have been following most of the "official" video series. What do you want to do on the server: I'd like to work on community projects and shared structures. For example, why does everyone need to build a genetics lab in their own base or their own auto-spawner. I'm also happy to explore with other and trade resources. Unfortunately, the server I was playing on seems to have gone offline. Why you should join the server: I don't grief, steal, or do anything stupid like that. I'm interested in the community part of SMP, not just heading off to the edges of the map and living on my own. I'm happy to show off my builds in hopes that they inspire others, and always want to be inspired by how others are building. Will you be recording and if so what is your channel? (Optional): I won't be recording.
  8. Minecraft Username: ScooterinAB Age: 30 A bit about yourself: I've been playing for two years or so. I'm interested in functional builds and large wooden boxes full of crafting tables and furnaces. I'm also like to die horribly while pretending to be an explorer. Why should you be invited? I'm far more interested in the community part of SMP than running off into the woods and being a hermit. I'd like to work on community builds and shared structures (for example, we don't all need a genetics lab in each of our bases), help others with mods, and go adventuring together. Hope I can be a part of your server.
  9. Are you still taking new players? It looks like the server I was playing on has closed up shop, which makes me a sad panda. I'm interested in community builds, shared infrastructures (like genetics and maybe TC basics), and helping other players with their projects.
  10. Username: ScooterinAB Age: 30 Location: (State or Country Only): Western Canada How often can you play: A few times per week. More if I'm working on a project or am otherwise enjoying myself. What time(s) of day are you most likely to be on: Usually in the morning to noon or at night. I can sometimes play a little on weekends, but that's mostly reserved for human contact time. How long have you played Minecraft: Somewhere around a year and a half or two years. Have you played a modpack before? If so, which one(s): Yes. I've played FTB (Direwolf) and a handful of individual mods like Ars Magica 2. Have you published youtube videos before?: No. Do you intend to publish videos of gameplay on this server: I haven't crossed that bridge yet, though it's something I've been curious about. Would you be willing to participate in a skype interview and play minigames prior to obtaining membership in order to gauge your personailty?: I'd be fine with that. I'll see if I can ping you on Skype right now. I'm not sure about a minigame though (more confusion than opposition). Post any other revelant information here: I'm interested in the community part of SMP. I'd like to work on community projects, go adventuring and exploring with groups, and do people things. I'm tired of joining servers where no one every talks or does anything together or helps anyone out. Thanks for your consideration.
  11. IGN(in game name): ScooterinAB Reason of wanting to join: I'm looking for a server to actually be a part of. I'm tired of joining servers where everyone travels to the edges of the world and never returns. I want to work on community builds and going travelling with others. Your favorite mod: Sync looks like ridiculous fun, along with Chisel. Age:(optional but you should be 15): 30 Youtube:(optional, I'm personally not doing anything youtube atm): No, but it's something I've pondered. Skype account(yes or no, it wont hurt your chances of joining): No, but I could be convinced to try voice while playing.
  12. 1. How old are you (optional) 14 Or older: 30 2. Your IGN: ScooterinAB 3. Whats your skype: ScooterinAB 4. Why you want to join: I've been watching Keralis and Paul's playthroughs of the modpack, and it looks like a lot of fun. I got out of mods after FTB (too technical and too self perpetuating), but this pack looks enjoyable and manageable. 5. Have you been banned from any other servers: Never. 6. When can you play?: Usually in the mornings and in the late evenings, with maybe a little play in weekends. Frequency will depending on having projects to work on an a sense of community. 7. What makes you think you should be added to the server?: I've always been interested in the community aspect of SMP. I don't see the point of joining a server, then running off the the end of the world and never interacting with anyone. I'm interested in community builds, group adventuring, and playing together with others. I'd like to help other players with mods they aren't familiar with that I might be, and work with others on the server who can show me cool things and give me building inspiration.
