  1. I didnt quite want to downsize the reactor yet, and moving on and upwards into the realm of active/turbines is just how tekkit goes. as for your comment on coolant, there is some property about the resonant ender that makes it a better choice for outer most row. Something along the lines that it either bounces, or halvs the heat/radiation that makes it through it to the final outer casing point. Cant remember the exact property, but I understand it to be overall better than just pure cryo gel.
  2. Back again with another round of questions. My survival base has become immense, and I am looking to end my power concerns for good. As such, I have created a monster of a reactor, that I even looked into the 2 big google docs on reactors and turbines. I chose this design ' alt='' class='ipsImage' width="1000px" height="592px">">' alt='' class='ipsImage' width="1000px" height="592px"> aaaand then made it 10 tall with a 8x19x19 chamber, 133 fuel rods. first attempts to make it as a passive cooled unit failed when with all control rods at 90% I was still left with a core temp of over 1200. (burned too much fuel too fast for my tastes) So I decided it was time to see about getting it changed over to active cooling and siphon that heat to some spiffy new turbines. This is where I start running into problems. I first decided to go with the 5x5x8 turbine mentioned in Scice's turbine power google doc. 2 rows of enderium coils, with 16 blades. From what I can tell from my testing in creative there is nothing wrong with my turbines. My problem comes from steam generation, transport, and attempting to make a closed system out of it somehow. 1. I was under the impression that you could send water to the reactor, get steam out, and then steam goes into turbine and comes out as water again, and this can be sent back to the reactor again. (aka: closed system) what my testing seems to show is that my system has "leaks" and wont keep generating steam unless I connect in near unlimited water. 2. steam generation, transport, and utilization. I was just reading something else stating that a reactor can make a max of 50,000mb/t of steam, and turbines can take a max of 2000mb/t steam. I can deal with that, I can make 25 turbines if I need to, but I appear limited by Fluiducts themselves. "Liquiduct transfer rate is 100mB/t per connection" after discovering this, I attempted to switch to pure tesseract fluid transport. according to the wiki the reactor and turbine ports for coolant have no flow limits, only their connections. I had a hard time getting steam and water to "flow" the right way at first but finally got it to semi work, and then I was running out of water and getting hardly any steam. I assume this to be a problem of not having enough water flowing through the system one way or another, or problems with turbine controls. Am I on the right tack here? If I'm making that much steam, is direct tesseract transfer my best option? 3. Does proper water and steam management actually cool my reactor? If i get this system all sorted out, will I expect to see temperatures back under 900? 4. instead of a closed system, would I be better off with a three stage system? where I pump water in to the reactor from a Near-unlimited water supply, steam out to the turbines, and then water from turbines back into this massive water reservoir? Lastly I would love to hear your help and input on this, This community has pointed me in the right so far on my quest of tekkit expansions.
  3. So I have stepped up my carbon footprint and have upgraded to laser drills for mining. I was showing this off to a server friend, and he asked me why I have my drills at Y 45 height. I told him because that was just where my underground base happned to be and where I placed them. He procedded to tell me that the higher they are, the more ore you get. After some searching, I was able to find sparatic mention of y= 128 height to be the best for them. But those posts were more than 6 months to a year old. and I could find no mention of it in the wiki's. Has this been changed/removed? Or am I just derping up my returns by having them in my underground?
  4. Thanks for all the help. Im about to try a fix as i move to a new quarry site. 1. I didnt even realize you could put a tesseract right on a quarry. mind blown! 2. I already had 1 tesseract that was getting pumped to from the chest on top the quarry. I think it turns out that This was caused by a problem with chunk loading on the receiving side of the tesseract. 3. I also did not know about putting 2 sides of a chest with itemducts to solve this too. Thank you all again and I should have this setup going strong again.
  5. I'm having problems with my guarrying setup. When I have a large quarry running at full speed, it is making blocks faster than my itemduct/pnumatic pump can remove them from a large alchy chest attached to it. Now I end up with my quarry vomiting blocks everwhere. what kind of setup can i use that will be able to handle the volume of blocks? (and yes i do have the pumps set to withdraw an entire stack at a time as is)
  6. Thanks for the reply and help. I think I've seen the Applied energistics stuff in someones video. those are the items based around a computer like setup with memory cards right? And I will have to look at the new item ducts.
  7. Some newbie questions to go with starting to quarry mine. When I last played tekkit there were still the energy conversion chests, so I could get away with pumping my quarry directly into one of those and as long as I had atleast 1 of whatever item i wanted I could pop it in to get however manny I wanted. This has lead to several problems with my setups that I have been trying to solve. First question, from what I see people talking of the new condensed cobble there is no useful way to turn 500 stacks of cobble into 3 stacks of iron ore, or anything else like that for now with EMC values right? My next issue is trying to create a sorting system for my quarry. I'm only a few hours into my single player and this is my first quarry setup so I dont have many machines or power to run a ton of pulverizers and the like. I am just trying to get things sorted into chests for now, and then add it to a processing chain later. Sofar I am using chests and wooden transport pipes with redstone engines. Are there simple faster options for getting things out of a chest and into a pipe system that i should use? My quarry is spitting out filler faster than my current transport can pull them out. Everything backs up and I got stuff fallin out of pipes everwhere! Lastly a question about sortng pipes. Been trying to use diamond pipes to manage my sorting, but I cant seem to get them to output the way I want. Example: tube in from quarry, I want it to sort dirt coble and gravle into pipe green, iron ore, tin, corpper, silver, and other ores into pipe yellow, and anything else in the system into pipe blue. What i get happening is that whenever a new item like gold ore, or somethign i havent gotten before to put into the filter ui shows up, my diamond tube poops it out a side with no pipe and nothing is going into the blue pipe where I want it to go. My next stop after finishing this post is to re read up on the diamond trasnport and just see if I'm using the interface wrong (Edit: Yup.. looks like the diamond pipe uses its non color side even if it has no pipe to it. Should be fixable). Other than that, is there a piece of pipe/machine filter i can use that I can configure to have my main quarry output pipe going through it and I want it to pick out one type of item or block from the tube, to send down another pipe, and let everyting else pass along? Thanks for any help, I'm sure i'll be around again with more questions. P.S. anyone have a link to a setup for automating the cobble compression?
