Does the gradually increasing simplicity (stupid-friendlyness) of modern operating systems correlate with the gradually increasing blankness of society as a whole, by any chance? Or can I just be classified as mentally "old" now for wanting to see details, even though I'm under the age of 18?
-
Yeah, unity was the worst thing ever. I also tried gnome 3, but it's just not mature enough to use IMO. Xubuntu and Linux Mint aren't bad though.
-
Yes, it is indeed quite good. I've been dual booting it for a few years now and the only reason I ever use windows is for native application compatibility and gaming. If need be I'd just use Wine. What sucks is that all the big game developers/publishers like Bethesda, DICE, EA, Activision etc. don't want to release their games for the linux platform. If linux had as many users as, say, macs at the very least, it would be an outright amazing operating system.
-
Even if that were still to happen, I would never be using windows 8 for as long as I can. Part of Microsoft's success has been due to their consistency in their operating system design. If they remove the "start" button which has been around since 1995 and force their non-power users onto a new interface, they will cause loads of frustration and lose sales. It'll be like when everyone clung to XP when Vista was launched because of its app incompatibility and excessive security etc. At the very least microsoft should allow people to go back to a fully classic interface that includes the start button. Also, if Microsoft no longer allows just any app to be run and forces people to be tied to their stupid-ass "app store" crap, I'm switching to linux. (and staying!) Maybe I'll just buy a playstation for my video games or something. Or just use windows 7 forever, even after microsoft stops releasing directx patches and the operating system stops being a viable platform for PC games. Who knows...

So I heard you like gaming computers...

Win 7 x64 home premium at the moment, would probably use the same for the new PC. -

Here's my relevant system specs: 2 GB ram 250 GB HDD Geforce 8600 GTS AMD Athlon 64 x2 4200+ @2200 Mhz About the most graphically intense game I can play is TF2, unfortunately. Forces me to use an Xbox for all the new games. I'm hoping to buy parts for a new rig and build one myself once Ivy Bridge comes out and once I have enough dough. I'm hoping for something like a kepler-based Geforce 660 Ti to come out. That, 8 Gigs of RAM (Really cheap these days!) and the Ivy Bridge version of the i5 2500k would be a perfect build for my needs. -
Re: Well that was mature... (silly bans) This whole situation is just going to feed the flames even more. I think it's kind of sad when someone (ErusPrime) tries to express an honest opinion towards the other side and is simply accused of trolling. It just shows how far things have escalated at this point on the scale of internet immaturity and just shows how hard it would be to mend the bridges. The nature of this thread is kind of offensive IMHO, and though I may be biased towards Technic's side, I think just going on the BTW forums to see how long you can last and posting it in a thread for everyone to see is just going to make tension between the two sides even worse. I also find it funny how all the folks over at BTW forums were guffawing over the post about forestry on the front page, and yet they ignore the message from Kakermix a few posts down saying the following: "If you are feeling frisky and would like to throw money at people that deserve it, by all means take a run down the list and donate as you see fit." What really bothers me is that people take the time to say that modders don't receive as many donations or as much attention when the technic team "steals their mods" and yet they don't even bother to investigate the other side of the spectrum for themselves and see what they're really doing. It just seems like everyone's opinion is based on word of mouth (or forum post). Unfortunately, no one ever seems to critically think or investigate for themselves anymore. It's just plain sad, to say the least. Do the modders not give permission for their mods to be in the pack? Do they not recieve many more donations and much more publicity from being in the pack? If a modder respectfully asks the technic team to remove a mod from the pack and it is simply removed, then what's the problem here? If that isn't the case, then I could see why people would be angry. Hey there Flowerchild, I know you're reading this. Just thought I should tell you that I've used your mod before and it's a lot of fun. Keep up the great work. I've also used every mod in the technic pack as well, they're a lot of fun too. It's great that I have the option to put them all together into a jizztastic combination to boot. It just really bothers me that the anti-technic crowd acts as if the technic team is asking for donations, and they act as if they make money from distributing out the pack. They don't. They lose money. It's time to put your thinking caps on and quit arguing like little children. Keep the minecraft modding scene alive!

jakj knew what I was thinking. I also couldn't agree more with the 300 MPH car analogy, but I doubt it's because of this guy just wanting the power for the sake of having power but not actually using it. The poor guy probably has no understanding at all of what he needs for his computer usage habits, so it just seems like he blew probably over $2000 for a top-of-the-line jizztastic PC that he doesn't even need. Not to mention the fact that he's using Vista and doesn't know what the 64-bit disk that came with his OS is for. Of course I could be wrong. He may have just been trolling, after all. It still really gave me a good laugh.

I've seen at least half of these guys' videos by now. Very funny indeed.

I was browsing an online computer hardware retailer, and decided just for the hell of it to look at the reviews for Intel's extreme edition core i7 $1000 CPU. Look what I found. Just look. *cries in a corner*

Rock, Chiptune, Jazz, retro game tunes etc. Among my favorite bands are The Beatles, Pink Floyd and Led Zeppelin. I absolutely love Oscar Peterson's jazzy work. I listen to (and make) lots of chiptunes. I don't know why they appeal so much to me, but they just do. The NES and especially the C64 can crank out some crazy-ass shit. Seriously, look up Fearofdark, Rushjet1 and Tadpole, among countless other chiptune artists. These guys put a lot of work into their stuff. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XDS5RqHRAVQ - Musical genius. http://ubiktune.org/releases/ubi044-various-artists-soundshock-2-fm-funk-terrror -More musical genius. http://tadpolemusic.us/ -Even more. Oh, and I couldn't have forgotten this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cIkQNti8_EU One more thing: Dubstep is terrible.

I'd imagine some sort of legal report could be filled out and the video could probably be taken down... Hopefully.
