Latest TechnicLauncher 1.0.1.3 is slow at launch, updater crashes, server connectivity issues

Question

Posted

Launcher Version: 1.0.1.3 (latest recommended build)

Operating System: Windows 7, 64-bit, English

Java Version: Java 7 Update 5

Antivirus Program: The newest TechnicLauncher presents a variety of issues:

1) Launcher startup takes ''forever'' - somewere around a minute or so

2) Launching the TechnicLauncher results in a crash of the updater module. See log below.

3) Sometimes the web-based contents inside the launcher does not load properly

4) Mod downloads can sometimes fail

- - -

1) When you start the launcher, it appears as if nothing is happening and it takes somewhere close to a minute before *anything* happens. This is most likely a result of point #2.

2) When the launcher finally starts, you're presented with an error message from Windows itself. The error log is posted below as ''Error for #2)''. If possible on the forums I will also include a screenshot of it, just for confirmation. This crash does NOT prevent the launcher from working, it's just a headache: Once you [Close] the error dialogue, the launcher starts as normal and you can log in etc....

3) Sometimes the launcher does not properly display the web contents. A bunch of broken images and the infamous ''unable to connect to [...] server'' message. However the Mojang launcher from minecraft (dot) net works without any trouble.

4) If this is the first time you start the launcher (i.e. after ''reinstall'') mods can have some trouble downloading from the server. You will, in these cases, get a ''unable to connect to server'' message. I could successfully download the tekkit-mod after I waited out the ''Remaining attempts: 2''. It did continue once it could connect to the server after a while...

Just strange issues that I never encountered with the old launcher and/or with JRE6.

Error for #2)

How frustrating. I included it with the OP... Will remember not to edit a bug-report OP in the future. Damn it!

I'm running Symantec Endpoint Protection 11.0.6200.754

EDIT: Yes, I have attempted to disable it.

I am also getting this. It's been happening since yesterday evening and it's been causing me problems all day. I deleted EVERYTHING and started fresh. First time loading up, most of the files didn't download. Second time I started the launcher and it asked for an update and the update downloaded a couple of files but this still didn't get everything for tekkit. I closed and opened the launcher a THIRD time. It asked for update and it downloaded MORE stuff and then it finally had all the bits to let me play on a server.

I think it's either the launcher, or there is something up with the servers that have all this stuff on at the moment.

Well as Torezu pointed out in several other threads there is an issue with connecting to the minecraft.net servers - the Mojang servers.

I'm not sure if it's right to blame the launcher for all the issues (even though it conveniently started after I updated) until we can wait out the issue Mojang is having (AGAIN)...

Hmm, that might be the problem I'm having. Looking through the logs the launcher gives "not found" errors for some modpacks that apparently should be there, but aren't. I'll try launching and relaunching and see where I can get with this.

EDIT: Well, it did download some more stuff after the second launch and then when I ran it ModLoader threw up an error after the Mojang splash and the game crashed. Something with Wireless RedPower was causing damage. Removed from mods.

Now I still can't connect to my server, but now it has "Bad login" and "End of Stream" errors instead of "Minecraft Forge" error. I guess that's an improvement...

As far as I am concerned the launcher is current unusable. Previous versions were slow to start up (although I found running the JAR instead of the EXE was faster in some cases) but the latest version is terrible! I have deleted my enture .techlauncher folder and let the game download again (which took half an hour literally).

I sure hope a solution can be found. I can't imagine the devs NOT having this problem?

As mentioned on another page, I have a similar issue. However, I do find that working with the JAR, also suggested on a previous page by Rainbow Dash, seems to be working much better for me currently. Consider mentioning it as a viable alternative while troubleshooting continues.
