Dentcat Posted May 9, 2015 Posted May 9, 2015 Quite frankly, it is. I just wanted to create this topic to see how far it gets pushed down when it's just me and 50 spambots on here. Can't we do as they said in the KJ and nuke any account that says.... ....vashykran? AdamHovorka 1
AdamHovorka Posted May 11, 2015 Posted May 11, 2015 If y'all are interested, I could try to put together a system for running some kind of a spam detection regex golf competition. Dentcat and TheBytemaster 2
Dentcat Posted May 11, 2015 Author Posted May 11, 2015 (edited) I haven't got a clue. Sounds fancy. So you make the spambots play golf? Yay. In all seriousness, AdamHovorka is the modern day Gavjenks. Points to you, sir. Edited May 11, 2015 by Dentcat
TheBytemaster Posted May 11, 2015 Posted May 11, 2015 If y'all are interested, I could try to put together a system for running some kind of a spam detection regex golf competition. Do eeeet. I'll probably lose, but I'll give it a shot.
Forum Administrators sct Posted May 12, 2015 Forum Administrators Posted May 12, 2015 (edited) The real problem is the accounts are actual people registering accounts manually then spamming the forums. edit: Made some changes to the registration process that will hopefully help. TheBytemaster Posted May 12, 2015 Posted May 12, 2015 The real problem is the accounts are actual people registering accounts manually then spamming the forums. edit: Made some changes to the registration process that will hopefully. That's a nice touch. You might have to rotate the question every week or two if they manage to get the answer, though.
AdamHovorka Posted May 12, 2015 Posted May 12, 2015 If worse comes to worst, there's always Discourse, by Jeff Atwood and friends (the Stack Exchange people). (Full disclosure: I have no idea what your hosting situation is like, and if it's anything like mine this may be impossible because I've been trying to install it on and off for a couple months now, with no success. Ruby+Docker just doesn't seem to like me. However, UX-wise, Discourse is very pretty.) Here's their perspective on spam prevention: https://meta.discourse.org/t/what-about-the-spam-problem/2724/4
TheBytemaster Posted May 13, 2015 Posted May 13, 2015 (edited) Well that didn't last very long. EDIT: Wait, did anyone else see that spam or was that just my cache acting funky? Edited May 14, 2015 by TheBytemaster
Dentcat Posted July 14, 2015 Author Posted July 14, 2015 They're back. And all the legit posts are buried.
