kensclark15 Posted September 22, 2012 Posted September 22, 2012 I've owned multiple servers in the past and they have ALL failed. I make a thread filled with information. I build a good spawn, I have great plugins, I enforce rules, I am nice to EVERYONE and I always ask if people need help. I try to make my server as fun as possible but barely anyone comes on and the people that come on are usually griefers. Do you have any tips for me? I would also like if a professional builder could come on and design a spawn and roads and everything. Quote
Brentnauer Posted September 22, 2012 Posted September 22, 2012 How long is it between when you open the server and then decide you've failed? Are you staying active in Minecraft related communities? How many slots is your server? How often are you on? Do you have methods in place that prevent or discourage griefing? Quote
kensclark15 Posted September 22, 2012 Author Posted September 22, 2012 1. I've had all of them open for 3 - 4 months. I try to get people on every day but that doesn't help. I waited a week and tried again but no one comes on. 2. Yes. I have about 500 posts on the forums and I go on there every day. 3. My server has 60 slots. 4. I am on every day. I'm homeschooled so I'm literally on all the time. 5. Yes. I have LogBlock which logs everything and I can roll it back. My rules for punishment are: Warn the player and if that doesn't work kick them. If that doesn't work I will either temp ban them or ban them. If they do something really bad I will ban them straight away. Quote
Brentnauer Posted September 22, 2012 Posted September 22, 2012 What are you offering on your server that sets it apart from everyone else? Quote
kensclark15 Posted September 22, 2012 Author Posted September 22, 2012 A friendly community. I offer an environment that is free of griefing, stealing, and random players killing you... I can't really explain it. I really can't come up with something better than that :/ Quote
Brentnauer Posted September 22, 2012 Posted September 22, 2012 Alright, then the question you should be asking yourself is this: "How am I better than these guys?" Look through their threads, identify what makes each of them unique and think about how you can incorporate the spirit of their ideas into something you can call your own. Without even having to look at anything other than the titles I see servers offering RPG elements, server back-story, building themes and mock governments. Everyone and anyone can make a server that's "free of griefing". Minecraft servers (and Tekkit servers, to a lesser extent) are a dime a dozen - any 11 year old with a decent computer and free time can set one up. Why is yours unique? Why should I join yours over the hundreds of others out there? It's simply not enough to offer the same platform as everyone else. If you can't explain your angle, you probably haven't found it yet.
