Title: Tekkit slows down after a few minutes of multiplayer

Description of Problem:

When I log onto a multiplayer server, it runs smoothly for a few minutes, then it suddenly slows drastically and sometimes crashes.

First I thought it was my install, so I reinstalled Java, Minecraft and Tekkit, this was no help. Also, I ran into a problem with the techniclauncher.exe file, so I had to launch with the .jar file.

I then formatted my PC (been meaning to do it anyway). But the problem persisted.

I then looked at the logs and it seemed Matmos was causing problems, so I removed this, but I still have the problem.

I have tried on 2 servers- 1 is my own multiplay server, the other a public online server and I encounter the same problem on both. But playing in singleplayer seemed to work fine.

how much RAM do you have and how much are you allocating to MC? I see that you're on a 32-bit OS, so try lowering the amount allocated. yes, I know it doesn't sound intuitive that it would help, but it often does

I'm allocating 512 mb if you mean to Tekkit, I have also put Java on high priority. This was something I tried pretty early on. I am almost certain the problem is not related to my RAM, else I wouldn't be able to play singleplayer or native, and I wouldn't have been playing Tekkit for 2 weeks with no problems.

alright, so this only happens in multiplayer. if you're already operating on 512MB, was it doing the same with 1 gig as well?

also, did you change anything about your computer around the time this started happening? like adding a firewall, changing network cards, etc?

oh also, hit f3 when in game and see what the memory usage is doing when the slowdown starts to happen

It was the same with 1 gig, I made no major changes to the PC, just reinstalled the 3 programs at first. When the slowdown last happened, f3 said it was 20% (don't remember exactly, I just remember it not being high).

The only solution I can find that I haven't tried is here:

But I have no clue how to remove Optifine :(

ok, how about CPU load? could you post a screenshot of the f3 screen when it's in the middle of slowing down? you don't mention any AV programs in the OP, do you have any?

edit: removing or perhaps using a different optifine may be a solution. IIRC tekkit ships with the S (or smooth) variant of optifine which causes issues on some setups. since removing optifine is harder than replacing it, try installing the vanilla version of optifine into your modpack.jar

additional edit: now that you mention the optifine, I recall having similar issues myself at one point which made me need to use the normal version.

screenshot probably not needed if it's optifine, so don't worry about it too much for now. for reference, I think the f2 key takes a screenshot.

moving on to optifine, you can find the modpack.jar here: %appdata%\.techniclauncher\tekkit\bin I believe. I'm not at a computer with technic installed currently, but if the "bin" folder doesn't have it, it's either just in the tekkit folder or somewhere in there.

are you familiar with adding files to a .jar?

I am not familiar with this, but I'm giving it a go now. Thanks for being patient with me. I assume the one I want is called Optifine light?

Hmm, the guide I found says to drag the mod into the modloader.jar file, but it won't let me do that

Ok I think I've got it, do I put in the compressed optifine or do I unzip it first?

you need to extract the files, then put them into the .jar with something like winrar. the .jar file you are going to be putting them in is called "modpack.jar", be sure you put them in this file and not minecraft.jar or it will not work.

OK I did that, now I'm just getting a white screen when I open tekkit.

I may have done something wrong, gonna reinstall and try again.

Yes, second attempt had the same result just a white screen.

hmm are you using the correct optifine version? by that I mean the one for version 1.2.5 of minecraft. I haven't checked to see if optifine for 1.3 is out, but I would guess that it is. be sure you're using the right one.

if that does not work, removing it would be the next thing to try. in order to remove the mod, you would have to look at the files contained in the optifine archive (it's important that you have the 1.2.5 version of optifine for this as well) and then remove the files that have the same name from modpack.jar. the names will be nonsense like aax.class, bdw.class, etc.

OK, I thought I was out of options, I'm trying this now, not sure what you mean by optifine archives, but I assume if I download and unzip optifine it will show me the files i need to remove.

Ok, I manually removed all of those files, and it loaded to the menu for about a second and then went to a white screen, I'm guessing it won't let me load tekkit without optifine

it should, optifine is not required per-se. can you post your logs after it has done this? preferably using pastebin or similar?

edit: also, I'm going to be leaving here shortly, so I won't be able to respond as quickly after I do.

21 17 is when I tried it with optifine removed completely.

21 24 is when i tried to paste the simple optifine files into the modloader (just thought it worth a try)

ooooh, I see what's going on here. I was kinda hoping this wouldn't happen =/

ok so here is the problem: optifine and forge have a bit of overlap, and those overlaps are merged together normally. removing the optifine files also removed some of forge, which breaks things.

in order to fix that, you will need to get the specific build tekkit uses of forge (not super difficult, they archive them all), and replace the files that are now gone because of optifine. this will be made a little easier by the fact that you can simply throw all the forge files into modpack.jar and tell winrar to not replace existing files. hopefully that should fix what's broken.

Can you tell me where to find the archives?

Edit, I found the version Tekkit uses (I think) and put it into the modloader.jar, this time, I was able to navigate the menu, but it went to white screen when I tried to join a server.

seems like there's still some issues with the rendering code. try this one last thing: reinstall tekkit completely, then copy the forge files you have into the modpack.jar, replacing everything. see if that works.

OK I tried that and got this:

[22:40:07] [sEVERE] java.lang.RuntimeException: sidedDelegate null when attempting to getMinecraftLogger, this is generally caused by you not installing FML properly, or installing some other mod that edits Minecraft.class on top of FML such as ModLoader, do not do this. Reinstall FML properly and try again.

alright, well that clearly did not work. try this, I did some looking since I'm at home now and the light version is not the one you want. you want the standard version. install this version: http://optifine.net/adloadx.php?f=OptiFine_1.2.5_HD_C6.zip

Ok you say that single player (I'll assume you mean Technic) works fine , so we can assume it something to do with Tekkit.

1) Have you tried to play on a clean multiplayer server (I mean new world completely), and if so does the problem persist?(would show if maybe a broken Tekkit machine or corrupt server)

2) Have you tried turning down your view distance and effects all the way to see if that changes anything ( would show if it was something in the distance causing the problem).

3) Does it get worse or better when you look in a certain direction (If so it can mean a corrupt graphic or block).

4) Are you using any custom texture pack,if so delete it and see if that makes a difference, if not try installing a custom 16x times one to see if that makes a difference(would eliminate a corrupt texture).

5) If you have another computer or a laptop try moving the whole folder over and see if works better on the other computer (would show if it was a setting on your computer).

Let us know if any of this makes a difference and maybe we can try and narrow your problem down.

Just did a more lengthy search and found this page http://www.mcportcentral.co.za/index.php?topic=1402.150 it turned out to be a corrupt file from IC2 on their server so the server may have something wrong with it.

in that case I'm pretty much out of ideas. there's something happening that I am not able to divine or guess at. my only final thoughts would be reduce render distance a bit and see if it helps anything, maybe disable advanced openGL. other than that, I am rather stumped, unfortunately.
