I host a small server for some friends and I have to move part way through the week back and forth between 2 houses with different IP's. Is there a way to change the local IP that the server starts on? I may not be wording this right but when I change the server-ip: line in the server txt file it does not change in the launcher.

(eg change 192.0.0.1 to 192.0.0.2, the launcher still says 192.0.0.1)

I can sort the port forwarding etc for my friends myself. Any help will be appreciated.

Your question doesn't really make sense. The server does not have an IP of its own; it always uses the one your computer has.

What you want to do is configure your router(s) in such a way that it assigns the same local IP to your computer all the time. Then you can port forward to that specific local IP.

How to do this is a question for your router's user manual though, not for a Minecraft forum.

Look, the one yse for the server IP setting us when you have two or more IPs

If you are moving between two locations, you could either invest in a VPS or use noip to create a DNS

Like Silent said, use No-IP to provide you a Dynamic user friendly hostname. No more typing in IP's.

I have personally used this solution myself while moving between multiple physical locations all round the world. The entire time I was able maintain a constant server availability as long as my computer was turned on.

Link if you need it: http://www.no-ip.com/

I would also suggest reverting the server.properties IP back to its default 0.0.0.0 (or blank I dont remember which) the only time I can imagine you'd need to use that setting is if you had multiple IP's directed to your single router and you only wanted the server to be accessible on one of them.

It should be left blank, although honestly I think binding to 0.0.0.0 would produce the same result as blank.

I think there should be a small comment in the config saying *only edit if you know what you are doing* since most beginners mess things up with that setting.
