Stuck on splash screen, nothing I have tried works.

Question

Posted

Launcher Version: 1.0.2.0

Operating System: Windows 7 x64 ver 6.1.7600

Java Version: Java 7 update 9 x64 and x32

Antivirus Program: None (I trust myself enough to not download viruses)

Description of Problem:

On launching the executable (admin or not) It loads up until it reaches the splash screen and freezes. I have to taskkill it to make it go away. I have also tried running the jar file itself but to no avail. It has worked once previously, up to the point where it would begin downloading the mods and fail. I have spent an exhaustive amount of time scouring the forums and questions before posting; and simply trying to work it out myself, but have not found a solution that works yet.

I am not entirely sure, however, that I have the most up to date launcher. The technic pack download page is failing and I can not download anything from it.

EDIT: For clarification, when it says: "Is 64-bit: 'false'" that must have been when I was attempting to use the 32 bit version of Java to see if that made any difference.

First off, most viruses don't need to be downloaded to infect you. Clicking on a link or loading a webpage can be enough.

On-Topic though: Try uninstalling Java 32bit and see if that helps.

EDIT: :ninja:

Touche, but I don't usually browse shifty websites.

As for Java I used to only have the 64 bit version and I installed the 32 bit later to see if that made any difference, it did not. However, for the sake of redundancy I went ahead and uninstalled 32 bit and re-tried, while having only the 64 bit version installed, once more and there was no change, still stuck on the splash screen.

I know nothing of Java so disregard this if I am wrong here, but are you sure it is not the launcher itself that is flawed?

Considering the hundreds of people who play technic / tekkit don't have problems and the Youtubers, like the Yogscast, don't have issues, I'd have to say it's probably on your end. But, if the technic pack download page is failing, there may be something to that. Have you tried downloading the .jar file and running it?

Oh yes, that is true. Could it be possible it is simply my internet that is causing the problem? When I attempt to download the Jar from the download page (http://mirror.technicpack.net/files/technic-launcher-latest.jar) I get sent to this error page:

if it is indeed my internet that is causing this problem, is there a workaround?

The launcher I use works fine (I am on PC but I know of quite a few people who use mac and it works fine). That doesn't mean that it is perfect, but I would assume there is an issue on your end that is preventing the launcher from working. It's not necessarily something you did (or didn't do) just that the launcher needs to work on multitudes of different systems with different settings, programs, power, etc. one issue that Mac have been having is sometimes fixed by making sure that your Java is the one distributed by Apple. I can't promise it will work but if you go to the Apple site and download the most recent update (version 6 IIRC) it might help.

Well I do not actually have a Mac, I'm using a PC. I think you may have posted on the wrong thread.

I have read, however, that some people think it is Java 7 that is causing the problem. Do you think it would help if I nuked Java and downgraded to Java 6? (http://www.java.com/en/download/manual_v6.jsp)

Sigh, sorry you are correct. As for getting Java 6, it has solved some isolated issues but it is only a temporary solution. If it works, more power to you, but just be aware that it may be more trouble than it is worth.

Okay I got rid of Version 7 and installed version 6. I've gone ahead and updated the log, I skimmed over it but it looks like nothing has changed, except it says I am using V6 now.

Try using a different browser and download the .jar.

Okay, I tried downloading it on Google Chrome, Opera, IE, Safari, and even Dolphin on my tablet. All of them failed, it may be the internet. I'm going to use my phones broadband connection and see if that works.

Edit: Okay, it works on my phone using my broadband connection. It must be my school's d*** internet. Sorry for wasting your time, is there any workaround to this?

For your information, you can get a virus from anything, clicking a link from a search engine, using Facebook, etc. I highly suggest getting an anti-virus software. I recommend avast! It's free, and it works rather well :)

Use your phone as an internet pass through for the computer. However, if you are in anything less than college, I wouldn't go screwing around with the schools computers.

I was going to ignore the request to get around the school's proxy's. They're there for a reason.

I wouldn't dick with any schools internet. It's against the law.

No doubt, but if he gets expelled, it's not going to hurt me...
