Question

Posted

Hi all,

I'm having a problem on my PC when running Tekkit SMP client from the launcher.

The problem is that no matter what the Memory allocation is set in the options of the launcher, Minecraft only seems to be allocated 247MB of memory and that makes it lag enough to make the game unplayable. The amount shown in the launcher does change but in game does not.

System Info:

Win 7 Ultimate 64bit

4GB RAM

Java 7 64bit (updated today)

Any tips on where I could look/what I should change would much appreciated.

I have searched the forums for 5 days and could not find the same kind of a problem fixed.

then find how to get more RAM in minecraft... Not to sound like a idiot, but you know you can always google this? And the RAM that you set for the launcher is the RAM in minecraft, because you never leave the launcher...

I think you're confusing two separate problems.

problem 1) you don't understand java virtual machine memory management, and are using the f3 screen to figure out how much max memory you think MC is getting by looking at "allocated memory"

problem 2) your game has low FPS

problem 1 isn't much of a problem, problem 2 might be solved with a bit more info about your PC. is it a laptop? what video card do you have?

(...) a bit more info about your PC. is it a laptop? what video card do you have?
It's a desktop PC

Processor : Pentium dual core E6800 3.33 GHz

Graphics card : GeForce GT 240

I'm running on fast, normal view distance, minimal particles, fog and clouds turned off.

Possible, but while my friend gets this (Used memory 218MB of 910MB and allocated at 420MB) 18401510.png

I get this (Used 238MB of 247MB and allocated also 247MB) minewmk.png

oh my, well that is certainly fascinating. could you post the command or batch file you're using to launch the game?

edit: also, does it matter if you run the exe vs the jar directly? I've been doing some googling, but I cannot find anything on java using less memory than it's told to.

edit 2: had a thought, but it's a shot in the dark. go into control panel -> java -> java tab -> click view. look at the parameters field here. is it blank for all entries? if not, what is in there? if it's blank, then this is not the problem.

edit 3: try using the batch file linked here http://forums.technicpack.net/index.php/topic,3480.msg22026.html#msg22026 to run the launcher, changing the -Xmx800m bit to be whatever you want. i.e. -Xmx1G or what have you. see if that sticks.

Sorry for the delay, I was offline for a few days.

I run Tekkit through the Technic Launcher on the default options.

there isn't supposed to be anything in rtemp. the launcher checks to see if it exists in order to decide if it should relaunch itself with the memory options it thinks it should have instead of the ones provided. try placing the bat file in the .techniclauncher folder and see if it goes

that's very odd. I can't find anything anywhere that mentions a problem like this (admittedly, I only googled for around 30 minutes). try reinstalling java I guess? meaning uninstall it completely, then reinstall java 7 of the correct type (32 or 64 bit, whichever CPU type you have).

you could also try deleting and redownloading the technic launcher and tekkit after the java thing too.

if that fails, I'm pretty much out of ideas. I will keep an eye out if I happen across anything that might be related. if I find anything or think of a possible solution, I'll let you know.

Batch worked for me.

I came here because I was literally having the same problem, with the same amount of ram being allocated, and the massive lag when that small amount was used up. However, the batch file fixed the problem for me, and I'm so happy! I put the batch file directly into the .techniclauncher folder and set it for 1g. No more issue. =D I hope you figure out why it doesn't work for you. Thanks for posting the link to the batch file, and thank you for the original poster of said batch file.

I'm not feeling like making a new thread since this one is already here.

Guys, Help?

I reinstalled everything that could have anything to do with Technic

I have only one version of java, and it's Java 7 update 4 64-bit.

I have 4 GB of ram and I am trying to even allocate 512 MB, does not work at all

Help?

Having the same issue, it's really irritating, every time I reach 100% usage it lagspikes for a second and goes back while the normal FPS is 60.

The link with a batch given earlier broke so I can't even try that.
