Launcher/pack Version: 2.1.1

Operating System:window7

Version of Java:newiest

Description of Problem:

Were hosting a tekkit server for our gaming community members and every time we start a server we get alot of lag for a reason where not aware of yet. Weve built up to the point where we've got redstone sorters going where the lag will get so bad well restart server and then as soon as we restart the lag will continue. We know its not a ram issue as our server is a beast. Were wondering if anyone is having the same issues and if its one of the mods and if something can be disabled to end the persistent lag.

Error Messages:

Our Memory stats:

Mem: 16512508k total, 9703028k used, 6809480k free

Were actually running 2 MC servers on that machine.

Our server

I've been receiving overloaded messages when no one is online and after a fresh restart. That's never happened before this version. I would presume this is what is causing the lag.

We have ~16000MB. Traditionally Minecraft servers need 100MB per user. With tekkit i would presume double that to 200MB, maybe (but doubtably) could be 300MB per user. So if we do the math there it would be:

16000 / 100 = 160 Users

16000 / 200 = 80 Users

16000 / 300 = 53.3 Users

And for shits and giggles

16000 / 2000 = 8 Users (we average around 4 users)

So yeah I don't think its a RAM issue when we can dedicate 2 Gigs of RAM per user.

You said you have lag even when on a new world? That is odd.

Normally I would suggest that unexplained lag is probably a result of faulty piping dropping large numbers of items on the ground, that will cause your server to take a shit no matter how much ram you have. You mentioned a sorting machine which makes this even more likely, however if you are experiencing lag even on clean worlds then I am at a loss, sorry.

what plugins are you running along side tekkit? Are they all updated to the correct version for the CB version you are running? I've seen a few people using 1.2.3 bukkit mods when tekkit is only 1.1 which has caused some problems. Try removing all your plugins and playing bare bones and see if that happens, if so then try a fresh install of tekkit.

A lot of my players are getting lag issues due to RAM on their clients. Even my client began to lag and throw out of ram errors. Turns out, updating java causes the launcher to only allocate 247mb of ram. If you hit f3 in game, you will be able to see.

This probably isn't your issue, but it's worth a look.

Yeah were running no other plugins on the server. We've had drops from quarries and the such before but on a fresh clean world we've never experienced such lag as this. Ever since 2.0

It is definitely not the issue, have played our server with multiple setting of ram but always the same result.

To add onto what Bigjay has said, we are running Dynmap alongside tekkit.

When looking at the dynmap for our server the time advances then backtracks a few seconds at a time, and then continues forward again. It would seem something is causing enough lag to cause a small loop. We are currently going thru the process of turning mods on and off to isolate which one is the major cause.

We will post an update for the Tekkit guys when we have isolated it.

Yeah forgot bout Dynmap I believe its the only plugin where using. Where doing the same thing slowly going through each mod disabling them and seeing if the lag gets better on by one.

Thanks for posting this up BigJay. I'm the server Admin, and it is a VPS not a dedicated machine. Also the Operating system is Linux not Windows.

This is our list of Bukkit plugins:

[iNFO] Plugins: RecipeManager, WorldEdit, ChopTree, dynmap, CommandBook

These issues started to occur when running 2.0. I presumed some of our users had "leaky" pipes and this was causing the issue. To compound this lag issue it was also brought to my attention about a Crafting 2 Bench dupe bug (that is still present). I went ahead updated the server to 2.1.1 & generated a new world. Immediately after starting the fresh new world up I began to receive "[WARNING] Can't keep up! ... server overloaded?" messages.

Currently the server lag comes and goes. I've gone through and disabled a few buggy and/or un-needed mods to see if that helps our situation.

We've been running our server since 1.0 and this is the first time we haven't been able to track down was is causing the lag. It sounds eerily familiar to pbottb's issues.

These plugins are disabled:

mod_Clevercraft=off

mod_EE=off

mod_IC2AdvancedMachines=off

mod_DoorFix=off
