Mestizo Posted January 7, 2013 Posted January 7, 2013 Howdy guys 'n girls, Me and my friends have really enjoyed playing Tekkit Classic, so much that we got our own server at an hosting company. Now we have all been really looking forward to a new tekkit version that would include the newest Minecraft and all the updated mod versions. But unfortunately my hosting party has told me the following: Tekkit does not yet run on Minecraft 1.4.6 and we do not yet have Tekkit Lite available. Which I thought was a bit vague. Could someone perhaps explain to me why an hosting party is unable to run the server package that has been released by the Tekkit devs? Any response is much appreciated. PS. I hope this is the right place to post this. Quote
Jalapeno777 Posted January 7, 2013 Posted January 7, 2013 It's doable. My server is hosted by a remote company. They're just electing to not do it. Quote
MoonieGT Posted January 7, 2013 Posted January 7, 2013 Similar question. My server host has tekkit as a simple drop down option under server configuration, but does not offer an easy tekkit lite option at the moment. They do allow me to upload my own jar file though. Will that allow me to setup a tekkit lite server, or is more complicated than uploading the .jar file from the tekkit lite server bin folder? Any hand holding guidance on how to do this would be much appreciated! TIA Quote
Mestizo Posted January 7, 2013 Author Posted January 7, 2013 I also have FTP access to my own server directory. If the Tekkit Lite server package is compatible with the hardware or whatever software infrastructure my hosting company has, I guess I could do it myself. I would need some instructions about how to structure the files though. ;) Quote
infosoft Posted January 8, 2013 Posted January 8, 2013 Sometimes a hosting company just wants to know what you are doing on their servers. I would imagine its part of quality control. If someone tries to run a server with alot of mods, for example technic lite, and it doesn't work nice, that person will go to their friends and say "Hey, the Infosoft super awesome hosting company suckz!!11! I tried to run a jar and it works badly on their systems bro!". Then your stupid (possibly blind) friend will go "Thanks broz! I didnt even relized bro! They looked cool", and with that, they just lost 2 customers. Why allow you to have a bad experience on a jar that doesn't work well in their systems if they can just control how you use their service and have quality instead. By the way, even if you have access to the server directory, they can block you from making any changes to important files, such as the jar. Quote
MoonieGT Posted January 8, 2013 Posted January 8, 2013 They provide access to upload your own jar. It's not a work around or anything. They allow it so that you can run a mod without bugging them to add it. They already have defaults for tekkit, FTB, and bukkit etc. just not tekkit lite yet. Hopefully they'll add it soon... Quote
Djinnii Posted January 8, 2013 Posted January 8, 2013 You would need to upload the mods for TekkitLite. It also depends on what sort of setup your hosting company is using. For example, if you had your hosting with me, you could simply upload your new server (or even download it from Technic direct to the server) and run it. This is because I host each individuals server on their own individual virtual private server I also place no limitations on what files you can and can't run on your server. If however you are on a shared environment like say NitrousNetworks or Beastnode, then you may find that your files need to be in different folders, not all of which you have access to. Furthermore, many hosting companies will simply use 1 set of mod and jar files for 100's of customers, since they invariably remain unchanged there's no real need for them to exist 100 times within the same system. It's a space saving thing. Quote
Mestizo Posted January 8, 2013 Author Posted January 8, 2013 Thank you very much for your responses. As of now, my hosting company supports Tekkit Lite. I had to find it out through one of their tweets, which I normally don't check. In any case, my problem is solved. I hope that MoonieGT's hosting company will also soon upgrade! I wish you all happy building 'n mining, cheers! Quote
