Hello Technic Gurus!

I'm sorry in advance if I break any rules or do anything wrong with this post.

I'm having a really big problem with trying to make a modpack.

First I followed a video (This video to be precise) and followed it to the letter but when I come to add my custom modpack and launch it... it goes into Vanilla minecraft. Now i know what you're thinking now, that I should have looked around more for solutions but I have tried for about 12 hours to get this to work. I made sure my download was a direct link from dropbox because when i put it into the browser window it downloaded it straight away with no button to click on etc. I also tried using multiple download sites like mediafire and uploading it to my weebly website and copying the download link. No change at all.

Next I tested the mods by putting them in the minecraft folder and putting the ForgeModLoader files into minecraft.jar... This worked exactly as expected but still wouldn't work from the download...

Then, after searching around a bit I saw that copying the modpack.jar from tekkit lite worked for them so I tried that.. still nothing. This is my current mod pack zip file that doesn't work at all...

https://dl.dropbox.com/u/25162572/XenBoxMod.zip

And the Technic page for it:

I'm pretty close to giving up, sadly.

Is there anything you could suggest or anybody that would be willing to help me either on here or over Skype that would be willing to give me a hand because I would really like to get into making my own mod packs so I can pick and choose like a kid in a sweet shop.

Thanks for any help you can offer.

SOLUTION - Worked for me and another person so may work for you... Worth a shot!

If you are using winrar, dont use it... instead, use the Compressor that Windows has built in.

When you select all the folders, instead of right clicking and clicking 'Add to Archive', select 'Send to' and then 'Compressed (Zipped) Folder'.

When creating the modpack.jar, simply rename the zipped folder to 'modpack.jar' and click yes when it tells you that it may not work.

I hope this works for you, as it worked for me, because I was getting really frustrated.

Make sure your forage is fully up to date and would you mind putting the FML log in a paste bin? If you go into your modpack in roaming, one of the files should be a FML report right at the bottom. Put the top one of those up and I'll take a look.

Edit for :ninja:

I thought it might be to do with the fact that you have to delete META-INF in the minecraft.jar but i'm not sure if the Technic Launcher does that automatically...

It does it by itself.

I come with the solution!

There are a few important notes the tutorial left out.

To succesfully create the mod pack you must:

1. Make sure all your folders and files are in the correct directories.(Mods in mods folder, coremods in coremods folder, etc.)

2. when you compress the mod pack DO NOT compress the folder your files are in. Instead select all files and right click to compress.(I would put in a screen recording but i don't know how to.)

3. Also when you are compressing the jar mod files (Forge) select all files and compress.

Ok, so I kept messing around with it and I used my laptop instead to make the modpack.jar... i still used WinRar and it seemed to work fine...

I used this for a while but then needed to make a new one. I used WinRar on my main PC and it didnt work... I then used the native windows 8 file compressor and it worked like a charm...

You called it Kiwii!

Hope this helps somebody else if they are having trouble
