Help setting up please.

I'm not sure where to post this at. I'm sorry if its in the wrong place.

Could I request some help on setting a server up? I've been trying for the past 2 days to get one running. I've updated my java, downloaded numerous Tekkit.rar files claiming to work with minecraft 1.5.2. I'm not running hamachi, nor a paid server. I have one setup directly through my computer using my ip. I can get the regular server to run, and have people join. But when I go to launch tekkit. I can get to single player or multiplayer. I pick multiplayer and see my server up. When i click on it, within seconds I get "End of stream" error. I've tried different versions of tekkit, tekkit classic, and tekkit light. Nothing is working. My only guess is either, I haven't got the right files or installed it properly for the server. I'm completely clueless as to what I'm missing or doing wrong though. Thanks in advance.

There's your problem. They're fake, and possibly dangerous (some people use fake programs such as that to distribute viruses, although you might just be mistaken). Tekkit is currently for Minecraft 1.5.1, there isn't a version for 1.5.2 because not all the mods are updated. For another thing, Tekkit isn't a .rar file, it's a .jar.

Thank you for responding. I know Tekkik isn't a .rar. I meant All the files I've been trying to use come in a .rar. I should have clarified that. Would you be able to link me the right version that works?

Look for the "Server owners: Download Tekkit 1.0.6 Server" right at the bottom of the page. That's the official one, so you'll want to go to that website whenever you download a server (or anything Tekkit).

1 last question if you guys don't mind helping me once again. I hit some button or series of buttons and now have a red grid on the ground where ever I move. And i can't seem to get rid of it.

if you are meaning the red X that show on blocks that is from nei and shows where mobs can spawn, if i remeber correctly f7 toggles that, if the above f9 didnt work

ooh i didnt know about that i should read more lol sounds like a useful tool
