Migrating 1.2.2 Singleplayer World to 1.3.9?

Has anyone come across a good way to migrate a singleplayer world from 1.2.2 to 1.3.9? I've tried several times, but it keeps crashing despite removing a lot of stuff.

I would highly doubt it's possible and a new world is probably best, just based on the sheer number of world gen mods removed and added in version 1.3.2

Gave up trying with my single player 1.2.2 version for same reason. Just decided to start again.

That's diappointing. I had an awesome house and portal-age built in my 1.2.2 version. :(
