Some mod packs don't seem like they have all of the included mods..

I downloaded tekkit recently, and at first it seems fine except for the low FPS. But as i get further into the game after i try and youtube 100 videos of how to start off, i start to think that im missing some things. i tried to smelt iron bars again to make refined iron but it wouldn't make it. i even looked through the items list but it just was't there. Then i installed crafting dead and it only came with 4 mods. Idk if im doing something wrong... help pleaseeeee.

Probably because a lot of videos of "tekkit" are older, and thus what was once "tekkit" is now "tekkit classic". This seems to cause a lot of confusion. Personally, I'd suggest looking at tutorials for specific mods. The mod list can be found on the official wiki here. The wiki is also really informative as to how to utilize items and blocks in tekkit, and seems to be getting updated regularly.

You watched FTB vids didn't ya? They are fine, but for the fact that they can't let go of Industrial Craft². That mod isn't in this version of Tekkit.

If you want to start with better ore processing you want to use Thermal Expansion. See the wiki the guy above me posted.
