Jim1971 Posted October 21, 2013 Posted October 21, 2013 I had a great time playing on my server last night, and when I awoke this morning I wanted to jump on and complete a project I stated... but the launch button only turns black when I click it and doesn't launch anything (ack!)... so I go to the main website and see it is offline (I get the " you are looking at old stuff" message). Does this mean that I can never use my modpacks (ssp or smp) if the main technic website is offline? And if so, can we get some type of work-around for this please?
Moderators Munaus Posted October 21, 2013 Moderators Posted October 21, 2013 That's not how it works. Technic homepage can be down due to popularity. (Hexxit = open floodgate!) Technic Launcher can be down due to Mojang screwups, since the Technic launcher goes through Mojang's server to play the game. I would recommend looking at Mojang's page, they have been down from time to time. Also, there is no SSP or SMP. Minecraft is online now.
Jim1971 Posted October 21, 2013 Author Posted October 21, 2013 Ok, not sure what the problem is then... If I try to launch my modpack with Technic the launch because black when I click it... and under the modpack listing (on the left) appears the word "Loading...". Only thing the console says is "Valid:" (nothing after that)... But if I launch my modpack in MultMC5(beta, where I test updates to the modpack before adding it to the launcher) I can startup and login to my server with no problems. As a side note: I have changed nothing in Technic, and it has been working fine all weekend. Ignore the really bad icon, my friend made it as a joke, and to get back at him I used it... and have been using it for almost 6 months now .
Jim1971 Posted October 21, 2013 Author Posted October 21, 2013 Ok, this is fubared... I have had this problem all morning, and now that I post a pic of the problem it has gone away and is working fine.... go figure. BTW: I also see the website is back to running normally... this reinforces my opinion that my problems were tied to the Technic main website being down.
TwoTails Posted October 21, 2013 Posted October 21, 2013 I have this error with the launcher when the web site is down too.
Ashkort Posted October 22, 2013 Posted October 22, 2013 I have this same issue too, I run on linux and every time I try to play any modpack when I'm not connected to the internet the same exact thing that happens to jim1971 happens to me, but if I connect to the internet it works perfectly fine. I would enjoy the ability to play offline.
Jim1971 Posted October 22, 2013 Author Posted October 22, 2013 I definitely would like to see my offline option return... even vanilla launcher has that.
Oli_Dron Posted October 24, 2013 Posted October 24, 2013 Ok if your offline you can still play if you downloaded the game when you were online. I've done it myself tons of times because my room is out of our WiFi hotspot. But if that doesn't work merge modpack.jar with minecraft.jar in %appdata% and click on minecraft.jar .
Ashkort Posted October 24, 2013 Posted October 24, 2013 The problem is though, yes what you said is a valid option, it didn't work for me. I looked at the debug console, for some reason the launcher itself keeps trying to access the minecraft.net and technicpack.net servers rether than switching to the offline mode and reading the data from your own personal modpack files when there is no internet connection present. I'm not sure if anybody other then me and Jim1971 are having the same issue, it could be a problem with the version of java, which I doubt though because it was working fine before the beta version became the new update and I tried the beta version before it became the update and the same problem appeared before I though it would be fixed when it was released so I should of probably came forward about it a few days ago when I noticed it the first time. If anything it's the launcher it'self have a buggy compatibility with the java or the new launcher will no longer support offline. Often the easiest solution is the best one.
