Hobo Joe Posted November 4, 2013 Posted November 4, 2013 When trying to launch this modpack, I get asked to update, as expected - but when I click yes, the dialog simply disappears and nothing downloads. I am able to download the .zip through my browser without issue, so it's not a problem on the file hosting side. Restarting the launcher has no effect. Any ideas?
Amaxter Posted November 4, 2013 Posted November 4, 2013 Is the pack zip named modpack.zip, and what archiving program do you use?
Hobo Joe Posted November 4, 2013 Author Posted November 4, 2013 No. This is the URL to the zip: http://bmrf.me/download/BMRF-Progress.zip And I use 7zip. Never had problems previously until I tried to do an update last night. E: Just found this in the log: 2013/11/04 12:47:01 [iNFO] Starting download of http://bmrf.me/download/BMRF-Progress.zip, with 3 tries remaining 2013/11/04 12:47:01 [sEVERE] java.util.zip.ZipException: error in opening zip file 2013/11/04 12:47:01 [sEVERE]at java.util.zip.ZipFile.open(Native Method) 2013/11/04 12:47:01 [sEVERE]at java.util.zip.ZipFile.<init>(Unknown Source) 2013/11/04 12:47:01 [sEVERE]at java.util.zip.ZipFile.<init>(Unknown Source) 2013/11/04 12:47:01 [sEVERE]at java.util.zip.ZipFile.<init>(Unknown Source) 2013/11/04 12:47:01 [sEVERE]at net.technicpack.launchercore.util.ZipUtils.unzipFile(ZipUtils.java:134) 2013/11/04 12:47:01 [sEVERE]at net.technicpack.launchercore.util.ZipUtils.unzipFile(ZipUtils.java:114) 2013/11/04 12:47:01 [sEVERE]at net.technicpack.launchercore.install.ModpackInstaller.installMod(ModpackInstaller.java:139) 2013/11/04 12:47:01 [sEVERE]at net.technicpack.launchercore.install.ModpackInstaller.installModpack(ModpackInstaller.java:124) 2013/11/04 12:47:01 [sEVERE]at net.technicpack.launchercore.install.ModpackInstaller.installPack(ModpackInstaller.java:77) 2013/11/04 12:47:01 [sEVERE]at org.spoutcraft.launcher.InstallThread.run(InstallThread.java:54) 2013/11/04 13:01:28 [iNFO] Starting download of http://bmrf.me/download/BMRF-Progress.zip, with 3 tries remaining 2013/11/04 13:01:28 [sEVERE] java.util.zip.ZipException: error in opening zip file 2013/11/04 13:01:28 [sEVERE]at java.util.zip.ZipFile.open(Native Method) 2013/11/04 13:01:28 [sEVERE]at java.util.zip.ZipFile.<init>(Unknown Source) 2013/11/04 13:01:28 [sEVERE]at java.util.zip.ZipFile.<init>(Unknown Source) 2013/11/04 13:01:28 [sEVERE]at java.util.zip.ZipFile.<init>(Unknown Source) 2013/11/04 13:01:28 [sEVERE]at net.technicpack.launchercore.util.ZipUtils.unzipFile(ZipUtils.java:134) 2013/11/04 13:01:28 [sEVERE]at net.technicpack.launchercore.util.ZipUtils.unzipFile(ZipUtils.java:114) 2013/11/04 13:01:28 [sEVERE]at net.technicpack.launchercore.install.ModpackInstaller.installMod(ModpackInstaller.java:139) 2013/11/04 13:01:28 [sEVERE]at net.technicpack.launchercore.install.ModpackInstaller.installModpack(ModpackInstaller.java:124) 2013/11/04 13:01:28 [sEVERE]at net.technicpack.launchercore.install.ModpackInstaller.installPack(ModpackInstaller.java:77) 2013/11/04 13:01:28 [sEVERE]at org.spoutcraft.launcher.InstallThread.run(InstallThread.java:54) 2013/11/04 13:04:00 [iNFO] Starting download of http://bmrf.me/download/BMRF-Progress.zip, with 3 tries remaining 2013/11/04 13:04:00 [sEVERE] java.util.zip.ZipException: error in opening zip file 2013/11/04 13:04:00 [sEVERE]at java.util.zip.ZipFile.open(Native Method) 2013/11/04 13:04:00 [sEVERE]at java.util.zip.ZipFile.<init>(Unknown Source) 2013/11/04 13:04:00 [sEVERE]at java.util.zip.ZipFile.<init>(Unknown Source) 2013/11/04 13:04:00 [sEVERE]at java.util.zip.ZipFile.<init>(Unknown Source) 2013/11/04 13:04:00 [sEVERE]at net.technicpack.launchercore.util.ZipUtils.unzipFile(ZipUtils.java:134) 2013/11/04 13:04:00 [sEVERE]at net.technicpack.launchercore.util.ZipUtils.unzipFile(ZipUtils.java:114) 2013/11/04 13:04:00 [sEVERE]at net.technicpack.launchercore.install.ModpackInstaller.installMod(ModpackInstaller.java:139) 2013/11/04 13:04:00 [sEVERE]at net.technicpack.launchercore.install.ModpackInstaller.installModpack(ModpackInstaller.java:124) 2013/11/04 13:04:00 [sEVERE]at net.technicpack.launchercore.install.ModpackInstaller.installPack(ModpackInstaller.java:77) 2013/11/04 13:04:00 [sEVERE]at org.spoutcraft.launcher.InstallThread.run(InstallThread.java:54) 2013/11/04 13:04:38 [iNFO] InstalledPack{info=SolderPackInfo{name='vanilla', display_name='Vanilla', url='', icon_md5='1db1857730e6e58158ed42dbd5273c0a', logo_md5='d0c5d45b185dd0f622313c170f5815b9', background_md5='737e7d495a2319dcb6d41b35b69a7f27', recommended='1.7.2', latest='1.7.2', builds=[1.4.7, 1.4.6, 1.4.5, 1.3.2, 1.2.3, 1.5, 1.5.1, 1.5.2, 1.6.2, 1.6.4, 1.7.2], solder=net.technicpack.launchercore.restful.solder.Solder@5f5de23a}, name='vanilla', platform=false, build='recommended', directory='launcher\vanilla'} 2013/11/04 13:04:40 [iNFO] InstalledPack{info=null, name='null', platform=false, build='null', directory='null'} 2013/11/04 13:05:00 [iNFO] progress 2013/11/04 13:05:03 [iNFO] InstalledPack{info=PlatformPackInfo{name='progress', displayName='Progress', url='http://bmrf.me/download/BMRF-Progress.zip', icon=null, logo=net.technicpack.launchercore.restful.Resource@3d933783, background=net.technicpack.launchercore.restful.Resource@c21990a, minecraft='1.6.4', forge='null', version='1.6.3', solder='', forceDir=false}, name='progress', platform=true, build='recommended', directory='%MODPACKS%\progress'} 2013/11/04 13:05:03 [iNFO] Pack: progress Image Download Worker Calculated MD5: 55904550c46a4360c65c294e6d123185 Required MD5: f7f0a2086a0f5a10c39eaf93400e49df
Hobo Joe Posted November 4, 2013 Author Posted November 4, 2013 Changing the name of the zip doesn't make a difference. I've been using this same zip ever since Platform started without an issue.
Amaxter Posted November 4, 2013 Posted November 4, 2013 Trust me, with the new launcher it does. I made the same mistake as you thinking it would still work and it didn't. It refuses to unarchive the zip unless it is named modpack.zip.
Hobo Joe Posted November 4, 2013 Author Posted November 4, 2013 The problem isn't unarchiving, it's downloading. I tested anyway to make sure, calling it modpack.zip made no difference. As I said, I've been using zips named things besides modpack.zip for several months on Platform, and it's never been a problem.
TwoTails Posted November 4, 2013 Posted November 4, 2013 Trust me, with the new launcher it does. I made the same mistake as you thinking it would still work and it didn't. It refuses to unarchive the zip unless it is named modpack.zip. no, the name of the zip doesn't matter, just look at the derectdownloads for my packs: http://download1487.mediafire.com/fcpjm8ptj9fg/euw70hd2n11f9k0/pokemon+for+masters.zip http://download1645.mediafire.com/vbo8f6v3o0pg/2q77ul4dp7ozan1/grand+theft+craft.zip http://download1649.mediafire.com/azku1vvxa64g/veb2tw8rccy9s35/Adventure+with+the+finest.zip see? none of these are named "modpack.zip"
Amaxter Posted November 4, 2013 Posted November 4, 2013 Hmm.. Seems your pack isn't properly set up. DId you download the forge universal jar and put that in the bin?
Hobo Joe Posted November 4, 2013 Author Posted November 4, 2013 This has nothing to do with the pack itself, it's the launcher. It fails to download the zip. Besides that, the pack is set up properly. Like I said I've been using Platform ever since it started, I know how to put a pack together properly.
CanVox Posted November 5, 2013 Posted November 5, 2013 Do me a favor and link me to your platform page so I can follow the process through from the beginning?
Hobo Joe Posted November 5, 2013 Author Posted November 5, 2013 It's in the OP, but I guess a hyperlink is too subtle: http://www.technicpack.net/modpack/details/progress.12299
CanVox Posted November 5, 2013 Posted November 5, 2013 Hi, Hobo Joe, here's what's going on: Your zip file has been moved to https://bmrf.me/download/BMRF-Progress.zip When you access the file through the browser, your browser receives the 301 code and then automatically downloads it from the new location. When the launcher attempts to download it, we download the "document has moved" HTML page that has been served and then attempt to open it as a zip file, which fails. I hope this helps!
Amaxter Posted November 5, 2013 Posted November 5, 2013 So basically you need a file host with actual direct links, DropBox is okay for small packs, but I find copy.com is great (but a little slow) if you need the extra bandwidth for free.
CanVox Posted November 5, 2013 Posted November 5, 2013 In hobo joe's case, his file host works great, it just wants downloaders to use the HTTPS address for security reasons. I'm not sure why our HTTP URL Connection isn't following the redirect- it's configured to do so- but it may be that it doesn't regard "301 moved permanently" responses as redirects per se.
Hobo Joe Posted November 5, 2013 Author Posted November 5, 2013 Works like a dream, thanks very much CanVox! I don't think I ever would have found that myself.
CanVox Posted November 5, 2013 Posted November 5, 2013 No problem, we're making a pass to improve error messages on the new launcher soon, I'll make sure that redirect issues like this are called out more prominently.
TheWolfram Posted November 11, 2013 Posted November 11, 2013 For anyone else having this issue and you are using either a private pack or a custom pack, and if you are using dropbox as your host, make sure you replace this- https://www.dropbox.com/ with this- https://dl.dropbox.com/ for your modpack location
