dwwojcik Posted December 8, 2013 Posted December 8, 2013 Getting permissions is a nice thing to do, but it is not required by any means.
Valtrino Posted December 9, 2013 Posted December 9, 2013 Getting permissions is a nice thing to do, but it is not required by any means. Actually It varries on each individual mod. Some DO require permission. Some only require credit. And some Require credit and link
dwwojcik Posted December 9, 2013 Posted December 9, 2013 Well, no. That's not what I meant. You can upload and play a modpack that has 0% permission from the modders, and the pack will not be taken down. Of course, following the modders wishes and asking before uploading is polite.
Hammerson Posted December 9, 2013 Posted December 9, 2013 Reynergodoy, I believe this is an example of a bad headline. You aren't drowning, and it's useful for us to see what you need help for without clicking the link. You need permissions if you want to stay on good terms with the mod maker(s). Many mods you don't need to ask permission for. Some would like a notification if you use the mod, others will get angry at you just for asking. You need to look it up for each individual mod, unfortunately there is no register you can easily check.
Lethosos Posted December 9, 2013 Posted December 9, 2013 On top of that, as long as it's a private pack, everyone won't care. ( Thaumcraft is a prime example; Azanor does care if it's public, but you can get away with it if it's ptrivate.)
TheBytemaster Posted December 9, 2013 Posted December 9, 2013 On top of that, as long as it's a private pack, everyone won't care. ( Thaumcraft is a prime example; Azanor does care if it's public, but you can get away with it if it's ptrivate.) Less like "getting away with it" and more like, "he gave permission". Still, the shaky legal grounds mods technically rest upon anyways pretty mean that anything anyone says about modpacks means bugger-all as far as "legality" goes. Server Packs: Private server packs are granted permission to include past and the current client versions of Thaumcraft in a mod pack tailored exclusively for that Minecraft server. The pack must be distributed in a way that ensures that only players currently active on that server can download it. Private server packs are only mod packs intended for use by a closed membership Minecraft server and distributed only to those members.
