Creepcruncher Posted January 6, 2014 Posted January 6, 2014 Anyone else played the original? Old, but just so epic c: Unehydrodyday 1 Quote
Kocken926 Posted January 7, 2014 Posted January 7, 2014 Epic it is indeed. I miss the sheer length of older games, this one just kept on going and never got boring or tedious, except for some jumping sections. Quote
Creepcruncher Posted January 7, 2014 Author Posted January 7, 2014 And then we have the expansion packs c: Quote
theprolo Posted January 7, 2014 Posted January 7, 2014 Half life was an awesome game. Shame it made me feel ill just by playing it. It made me a little depressed that the third expansion (decay) was a PlayStation exclusive, but then again it was co-op and not particularly well known. I just wanted to play every Half Life game ever :( Quote
Creepcruncher Posted January 7, 2014 Author Posted January 7, 2014 Same I nearly fell out of my seat several times when attacked by zombies though xD Quote
TwoTails Posted January 8, 2014 Posted January 8, 2014 I love that game and it sequels! I haven't play the true original or it's DLCs, but I have played the Source remake of it. (witch for some reason, it installs under \Half-Life 2\hl1\) Quote
Creepcruncher Posted January 8, 2014 Author Posted January 8, 2014 The original security guards are cool The voices match them better. Maybe HL: Source is a bit like a mod? Based on HL2 but runs seperately? Quote
theprolo Posted January 8, 2014 Posted January 8, 2014 All of Valve's games are mods of half life - even TF2 is run from HL2.exe. When they released Half Life 2, they started modding that instead. Quote
dwwojcik Posted January 8, 2014 Posted January 8, 2014 I started playing Half Life 2 once. I made it as far as the front steps of the train station at the very beginning and then got completely lost. I spent 15 minutes where to walk next. I should try again sometime. Quote
theprolo Posted January 8, 2014 Posted January 8, 2014 Yeah, I'm pretty sure L4D is a Half Life 2 mod. It's probably because half of Valve's games are sequels to mods that they bought from the original creators - I think that's how Team Fortress started (although I could be wrong). Dota is another example. Quote
Creepcruncher Posted January 8, 2014 Author Posted January 8, 2014 Team fortress (Quake mod) > Team Fortress Classic (Half-Life 1 mod, new, classic gameplay? xD ) > Team Fortress 2 (HL2 mod, uses Source but most of the game is original unlike TFC) Quote
Kocken926 Posted January 8, 2014 Posted January 8, 2014 Team fortress (Quake mod) > Team Fortress Classic (Half-Life 1 mod, new, classic gameplay? xD ) > Team Fortress 2 (HL2 mod, uses Source but most of the game is original unlike TFC) I started writing a slightly worked up response about how wrong you were until I realized you are using > like an arrow instead of a symbol for "greater than"... Anyways, if anyone hasn't played it yet, go play "Black Mesa", the source remake twotails spoke of. Quote
theprolo Posted January 8, 2014 Posted January 8, 2014 You sure that's the source remake he was thinking of? I assumed it was Half Life:Source. But yeah, if you enjoyed Half Life, Black Mesa is incredible. Frankly, it's pretty incredible anyway - it's just a shame that they haven't finished Xen yet. Quote
TwoTails Posted January 8, 2014 Posted January 8, 2014 I started writing a slightly worked up response about how wrong you were until I realized you are using > like an arrow instead of a symbol for "greater than"... Anyways, if anyone hasn't played it yet, go play "Black Mesa", the source remake twotails spoke of. no its not. I was talking about Half-Life: Source. when you buy it, it comes with Half-Life Deathmatch: Source. All of Valve's games are mods of half life - even TF2 is run from HL2.exe. When they released Half Life 2, they started modding that instead. The newer games have their own exe. like Portal 2, CS:GO if I remember right, Ailen swarm, Dino D-Day, The Stanely Parable, and some others. Quote
Kocken926 Posted January 8, 2014 Posted January 8, 2014 no its not. I was talking about Half-Life: Source. Whoops. I've actually never heard of that one. Have you played Black Mesa? Quote
TwoTails Posted January 8, 2014 Posted January 8, 2014 Whoops. I've actually never heard of that one. Have you played Black Mesa? I will, but I want to beat HL:S before I play the HD version. Quote
Creepcruncher Posted January 9, 2014 Author Posted January 9, 2014 My laptop isn't terribly fast, so: Half-Life- Laptop can cope > Half-Life: Source > Might lag a bit > Half Life: Black mesa (Source plus more HD)- Make my laptop explode :c Quote
TwoTails Posted January 9, 2014 Posted January 9, 2014 My laptop isn't terribly fast, so: Half-Life- Laptop can cope > Half-Life: Source > Might lag a bit > Half Life: Black mesa (Source plus more HD)- Make my laptop explode :c Half-Life: Source has no texture updates. it's just HL1 in Source, so it should not lag. There is only 2 reasons I can think of getting it if you have HL1: 1. Half-Life Deathmatch: Source. yes, A dead muti-player game that comes with any payed copy of HLS. 2. Garry's mod. it's in source, so you can play with the assets in Gmod. Quote
Mooseman9 Posted January 10, 2014 Posted January 10, 2014 The newer games have their own exe. like Portal 2, CS:GO if I remember right, Ailen swarm, Dino D-Day, The Stanely Parable, and some others. Fun fact: The Stanley Parable is not made by Valve. Quote
dwwojcik Posted January 10, 2014 Posted January 10, 2014 I think it runs on the Unity engine. I have been missinformed. Quote
TwoTails Posted January 10, 2014 Posted January 10, 2014 Fun fact: The Stanley Parable is not made by Valve. yeah, I derped. it still runs on the source build used by Portal 2, though. Quote
theprolo Posted January 10, 2014 Posted January 10, 2014 I think Portal has its own (updated) version of the Source engine, which is probably why games with their own .exes start there. Quote
Creepcruncher Posted January 10, 2014 Author Posted January 10, 2014 So, gmod costs about 20 pounds, when I can get most of the content free from HL:S? *steam facepalm* Quote
